Just wondering what the relationship is (if any). Like would a 30 be equivalent to a 1400? If any of you can estimate SAT scires for different MCAT scores, my curiosity would be satisfied 🙂.

I know there are several threads about this already. People who do absolutely horrible on the SAT probably aren't the people who will be taking the MCAT anyway, and doing well on a high school test covering the most basic of topics doesn't automatically translate into similar performance on the MCAT.

There are several existing threads regarding this topic. It has been determined that there is an extremely loose relationship. Doing well on the SAT does not guarantee success with the MCAT. Likewise, doing poorly on the SAT does not mean you can't do well on the MCAT. They are two entirely different tests, and it's almost like comparing apples to oranges. Sure they are both fruits, but they're completely different flavors.

Having said that, some people are natural born test-taking studs. If you are naturally good at standardized tests, you will probably do well on both the SAT and the MCAT.

I bareley remember the SAT, but I think its more of an IQ test than a content test, while MCAT is about content. So I would say they wouldn't really correspond well. Really smart people probably will do well on both.

I would imagine it is a loose, at best, relationship. Ideally you would have to compare standard scores (z-scores), but even then it isn't that great because the tests do not, by thier design, measure the same thing.

As for me personally, my percentile score on the MCAT is was higher then my percentile on the SAT.

Yeah, I understand that they're unrelated (I was mostly talking about percentiles) and I did find that in another post. I'm not sure what my SAT percentile was but I think my MCAT one is higher as well. I didn't ask for any useful purpose...just for my curiosity 🙄...

i think its hard to compare because i never really gave a crap about highschool lol. I winged the ACT three times, not picking up a single book on it, best score was a 26. and it was good enough for MU so that was that.

The MCAT actually meant something to me, this test was MY future. So i studied pretty good and got a 31.

I remember a study that said ACT scores overall were usually within 2 points of the MCAT...I got a 33 on the ACT and ended up w/ a 31R so maybe there is a correlation...As far as percentile correlation for SAT goes I don't think mine match up with the MCAT, I had a 1470 which according to a similar thread means I should have gotten a 37🙄...Oh well

I scored somewhere I'm the mid/upper 1100s on my sats and got a 30 on the mcat..... So I don't think there is a very good relationship between the two. I didn't try for the sats but I did for the mcat

My breakdown was

SAT first time:
Verbal: 700
Math: 590
Total: 1290

SAT second time:
Verbal: 800
Math: 650
Total: 1450

MCAT first and ONLY time:
PS:10
VR:11
BS:11
Total:32Q

Its

SAT

1st time: M: 700 R:620
2nd time: M: 780 R:660

MCAT

B: 14 V:9 P:12

It appears that my weaknesses and strengths carried over from the SAT. I had always been pretty sucky at reading comprehension and pretty good at math. I'm not sure how biology plays a factor here though.

It really depends on what kind of person you are. Everyone studies for the MCAT, most people don't study for the SAT.

I got 1530 on the SATs but a 36 on the MCAT. I probably only deserved a 1300's on the SAT, but I hit the books hardcore and bumped my score up.

Didn't take the SAT. Took the ACT and didn't study for it - didn't know you even could or that some people actually did.

MCAT - took before I had taken most of the prerequisite courses, so I don't think that is a very good data point either. 🙂

SAT: Verbal 760, Math 660 (total ~97th %ile)
MCAT: Physical Sci 11, Verbal 11, Biological Sci 13, Writing R (total ~95th %ile)

You also have to take into account that alot of (for lack of better words) lesser students take the SAT, which make it easier for the better students to score in a higher percentile range. Eventhough I dont have any statistics to back this up, i would be willing to bet that probably around 80-90% of the ppl that even just take the MCAT scored above the national average on the sat (1000).

So your percentages should be lower on the MCAT. but there are still alot of other factors to take into account

SAT:
1st time 760 math 630 Verbal (ESL)
2nd time 710 (I think) math 680 Verbal

So 1390 both times, but the composite came out nice at 1440.

MCAT:
10 VR 10 BS 12 PS T

1440 SAT
790 math
650 verbal

mcat 2006
27N
10ps/9bs/8vr

mcat 2007
32q
13ps/11bs/8vr

no correlation imo

maybe they're trying to tell me i suck at reading :|
