I'm in Augusta as well and I got a waitlist letter dated April 14th. Hopefully we will see big movement on their waitlist this year! Good luck to everyone!

do we have to sign the letter and send it back, or can we just call. Because I'm not where teh letter was received.

rushed hoome from volunteer shift to check mailbox just now. nothing. (atlanta)
sounds like most of the letters are all waitlist notifications.

hook, when did you interview? i'm surprised you got waitlisted at mcg with such good stats... (4.0 gpa!) makes me feel even less confident about my chances here.

I interviewed early around late october. I think my problem is that i wont have a degree by this summer. But my roomate had better stats than me and he hasnt heard back either, so MCG is definitely looking for something specific.

yeah... i got belittled at my interview for not showing a passion for rural medicine.

I'm in Atlanta and received an acceptance today (interviewed Jan 11). I will not be attending, however, so congrats to someone and best of luck to everyone else.

thanks for the info.

maybe letters that were dated on the 11th are acceptances, and the 14th are waitlist.

Mine is dated the 13th... I think the only thing we can know for certain is that the leter date is no exception to the application process. That is to say it is ingeniously crafted to give us no idea what the hell is going on.

Again, much :luck: to all who wait. I was pulled off a waitlist about two weeks ago, so it does happen.

Got the wait list letter this evening. Hopefully, there will be another one from Mercer at the end of this week. Maybe being on three waitlists in GA will increase my odds of getting accepted from one. Here's the way I figure it:

Rought 500 of 1000 applicants were interviewed. Of those 500, 190 slots were offered. I was told between 60 and 80 come off the wait list. Now, here's the million dollar question: Does everyone who gets interviewed automatically get waitlisted or accepted? In other words, do they reject some of who they interview? Does anbody have an estimate as to how many are wait listed total? Lets keep praying for that call. At least my mail man can start to relax!

According to a letter from the office of the president, it was more like 2,000 people who applied, not 1000. Not sure how many interviewed, though.

Still nothing for me.

Nothing down here in Savannah either. I'm debating calling and asking if anything has been sent since I've had so many problems with my mail being stolen or delivered late at this darn appartment complex. A gift card showed up almost two weeks after we were expecting it and the envelope had been opened (thank God they sent a gift visa and not cash). Shouldn't get my hopes up but one never knows.

Yeah, I think about 1100-1200 were Ga applicants. That's why I quoted that number. For some reason a LOT of out of staters apply even though there are like 2 or 3 seats in the class for them (technically the GA general assembly says 5%, so mabye 9 or 10). There were two out of state interviewees on my interview day alone. I guess some people feel that if they have a 30+ MCAT they can write their own ticket.

Anyway....I bought one of those Princeton Review Medical School books for 2005. According to what MCG reported to them, they interview half of the Ga applicants. That's why I said about 500. Someone on interview day told me it was more like 400. But I still want to know if every person they interviewed who wasn't accepted got wait listed or if any of them got rejected.

I just called up and they said that I should be receiving something either this week or next week. So that means nothing has been stolen or placed in someone else's box but it brings me no closer to knowing what they're sending me. Oh well.

i'm in midtown atlanta, nothing this weekend. i am hoping something today or tomorrow when i get off work... i have a feeling that the earlier you get a letter (like this week and maybe next week) the better your chances of an acceptance or higher rank on the waitlist. and i guess the worst will be if you don't get anything at all.

Anybody have any clue about how many interviewees are wait listed vs. those rejected?

Just got my waitlist letter up here in DC.

Just got my waitlist letter in duluth, GA

Just got my waitlist here in Savannah, GA.

So let me ask everyone. Now that many of us got our waitlist letters what are your plans? If you have been accepted somewhere else will you decide to wait on MCG? If you have ben wait listed at two schools and one contacts you before the other how will you decide whether to keep waiting on the other? Personally if Mercer contacted me before MCG (or vice-versa) I'd just go w/ them and not worry about the other. I mean if MCG decides they want me in July but I've already been accepted into Mercer in May or June I think I'd tell MCG that I'd already decided on Mercer rather than having to scramble to find living accomodations and such in Augusta.

wow. sounds like they waitlisted mostly everybody here. i guess i will go home today to find another waitlist letter at best.

so, does anybody know how many acceptances they hand out before the start waitlisting? i think i heard that for a class of 190, they hand out around 260 acceptances and then waitlist people. i wonder how much waitlist movement there is per year.

I think that 260 number is the total number of people accepted, including from the waitlist. (190 straight up acceptances + 70 average off the wailist= 260).

oh. so they don't accept any extra? like mercer? i didn't know that.
i guess that's better news for the waitlistees.
(gosh, i hope i at least get on the wiatlist.)

Yeah I think thats why they have so much waitlist movement...because they dont overaccept the class. They rely on the waitlist to take care of that.

Good Luck everyone.

Mercer doesn't over-accept either.

I know of someone who got rejected. So not everyone was waitlisted.

Did the person that got rejected have an interview? trying to see if all interviewees got a waitlist or acceptance.

Edited: Acceptance

yeah. just came home to my waitlist letter as well.

yea he had an interview. His stats were well above average but he had a late interview.

You're right. The class size of mcg is state mandated until this coming year its been 180 but b/c people are worried about a doctor shortage the state increased the class size to 190. Anyway the point is you guys still have a really good chance a getting in off the waitlist b/c every time someone turns down an acceptance a spot automatically opens up for someone else. I know of several people in my class that did. Best of luck!

Just got the letter to be on the alternate list...

Interviewed Jan 11th

Alternate list letter dated April 14th

So the waiting continues....

Wonder if there is anything that I can do at this point to help my chances: letters, etc.

waitlist here as well...
geez...5 interviews..5 waitlists...
oh the agony!!!

they told us at our interview that the waitlist is already ranked when they make it, and your rank does not change no matter what you do.

so i guess all there is to do is wait and send your recent transcripts like the letter stated.

does anybody know about how many people they waitlist?? is it a HUGE waitlist?

Not sure how big it is. I did see in the Princeton Review book on Med Schools that MCG usually accepts 40-50 from the alternate list. That was from the '04 edition.

wtf.. it seems like everyone on mcgs waitlist is on sdn. Why are there so many Ga people on this board?

Not many UGA students....but I am applying next year.

No there were quite a few at my interview

i actually think there are not enough people on sdn from ga, compared to up north or california. wish there were more ppl to get a better representation of mcg applicants. how come all of us on this thread (well most of us who didn't withdraw yet) got waitlisted? geez.

non-trad applicant here. old woman with nobody to compare notes with 'cept this here forum!
haha.

Waitlisted. The dream is alive.

Mrs. Devaughn told us there could be as many as 80 taken off the wait list this year. My Princeton review from 05 said 40-50...we'll see. I'm sure it varies from year to year. Do yall anticipate much movement after about May 20? Since the 15th is the day people with multiple acceptances have to decide on one, I'd think a week past that would probably be the busiest time for the wait list. Afterwards, it seems as though only those with personal reasons for giving up their seat would do so.

If you get wait listed at MCG or Mercer you've got a pretty good chance. I know for a fact that neither school gives out more acceptances than they have places in the class. Therefore, one person who drops their acceptance is a spot for one of us. Good luck!
