Mcg

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I recently got accepted and haven't had time to find a place. I'm about to start looking but would really like to live with another med student. So, if anyone has a place and/or is in need of a roommate please reply or message me. I'm a very relaxed guy and def. easy to get along with.
Thanks-
John

Did you get in off of the waitlist? If so, when?

Haven't heard a peep. It's getting difficult to stay hopeful. Anyone reapplying?

I lost hope a while ago. I am reapplying and reMCATing.

SO are u all saying that movement is mostly likely over at all schools by this point. Man if that is so that really sucks.I wonder if mercer is also done with movement.

I think it may be safe to assume at most 5-10 spots opening up at a school from this point to matriculation day, if you aren't holding an acceptance it would be hard to pin your hopes on being one of those 5-10 people. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. I know I'm still hoping Augusta comes through.

I talked to Mrs. Putnam yesterday...about an interview with Dr. Comeau to talk about what I can do to improve my chances next year. Little do they know that I'm going to GA-PCOM in the fall if I don't get a call from them or MCG. I just want to know what reason they have. But that's all I know for now. Good luck to all!

I did the same thing about a month ago. All I got from Dr. Comeau was that I needed to improve my personal statement. Translation = not country enough. I hope you get a more lucid response than I did.

There's no way I'm going to get anything better than that and I don't expect it. I just want to listed to that man flounder for some lame reason I wasn't good enough. It could ONLY be something non-specific like a personal statement. I mean come on...I had a 3.57 GPA which is above their average, a 27MCAT which is above their average, I went to Mercer undergrad, I applied ED TWO years in a row, I have great LOR, and excellent ECs including a YEAR of volunteering in a local volunteer clinic where several of the faculty members volunteer. In addition to all that, I met with the Dean last year and followed every piece of advice I was given. Oh, yeah...and I'm from a N. Georgia town with less than 2000 people that is considered both rural and underserved by the AAMC. Let me traslate that: either I had a booger hanging out of my nose at my interview r they just don't want me. I have no other reason than that. BUt we'll see what he says. I'Ll let you know.

no offense, but i think the avg mcg at mcg is above 27, unless the average fell by more than 2 points from last year.
best of luck to you guys holding out for mcg. sometimes the whole process really does seem like a crap shoot

GAdoc, you and I are in the same boat. We have almost identical stats, got waitlisted at MCG and Mercer, and we will most likely both be attending GA-PCOM when all is said and done. I am having a hard time understanding the admissions process because I know for a fact that several people got into both MCG and Mercer with lesser stats than ours last year and this year. Go figure. Maybe if I went to UGA I would have had a better shot. It seems as though MCG pulls 90% of their class from UGA. I'll keep my fingers crossed until August, however. Good luck to you as well.

Hey, I need some friends at GA-PCOM. If you end up going for sure, let me knw and we'll look each other up once we get there. Actually, my wife has just found a job in Gwinnett Co. and we're planning as of now to move there at the end of July. So keep me up on what you decide.

Congrats Brian ... I dont think we can be roommates though, Im a Gator!

I received an really exciting phone call form Ms Devaughn today informing me there was a seat in the Class of 2010 for me. I immediately withdrew my acceptance from VCU and will be heading to Augusta for the fall. On a more practical note, Anyone still need a roommate?

She called you on Saturday? Congrats!

Thanks.

SHe called Friday, it was totally unexpected. I was about to sign a lease in Richmond for an apartment at MCV/VCU.

Has anyone received their financial aid package yet?

I haven’t looked at the area around mcg yet. What is a good area to live in? I will probably need to look for a roommate.

I've lost much hope of hearing from them. I called Mrs. DeVaughn today and she said waitlist movement has been very slow. Oh well, time to reapply.

I have not received my fina. aid package yet. I was told by the fina. aid department when I was there in person last week that they were going to be giving out the award letters some time this or next week. She said that it was all going to be online?! As far as places to live, I along with at least 5 students in our class that I know about are living in Stevens Creek Commons. PM me with any questions about the area!

Hey there - there is a site that someone in the student health dept told me about which may shed some light...it is called pulse. here is the site:

http://www.mcg.edu/success/bannermatters/pulsepoints.htm#eGuide_info

If you read the instructions it will tell you how to do some of the stuff prior to getting to orientation. It also allows you to see financial aid. I checked and mine still is not processed online, but when I spoke to fin aid, I was told the same thing you were - that it is coming. So where is Stevens Creek Commons?

Stevens Creek Commons is located at 100 Bon Air Drive in Augusta and this is the apartment guide page for it: http://www.apartmentguide.com/Prope...70**listingpricelow_9_0_-1**listingid_2_22618

If anyone is thinking about applying to live there let me know!

Also, I don't know if anyone else's arrived, but I got a package in the mail today with lots of stuff about MCG and orientation.

Waitlisters: I think I have good news that there is one or two spots available b/c on the list of all the students matriculating in the Fall, I know one of them who just got off a waitlist and is going to be dropping his spot at MCG. Keep the faith for a little bit longer.

I got the packet also today. Has anybody got there financial aid award letter yet? Post on here when you do, Thanks!

the aid letter should be available online on the pulse site (mine came up today). hope that helps a little...september, are there a lot of students living there? have you moved down yet? i am wondering about traffic conditions to get to school in the morning. i saw in the packet that perimeter parking is all that is available, so i am wondering how close perimeter parking is to class...do you know how that works?

There are a lot of MCG students and residents living in the complex. There is also a free breakfast Mon. thru Fri. in the club house. The other morning I had breakfast with a surgeon and an opthamologist so there are doctors living here too. I have moved in, but am spliting my time b/t atlanta and augusta. I will be up there full time in about a week. The traffic is not bad since you can get to MCG by Washington Road or Riverwatch Pkwy. I don't know about the parking yet. I'm spending my day off from work tomorrow on that stuff and will let you know. I can't get my e-mail working according to thos instructions with the birthday year and ss#'s last 4 digits? Any suggestions before I call IT in the morning?! Would love to see that Fina. Aid!

hmm, yeah i think i just did the year and ss #. it didnt work? i cant get webct to work. i think i remember it saying on that page to make sure to do one of those first before logging into pulse...which is where fina aid appears. maybe IT can help, but i am sure they will also tell about it in depth at orientation.

IT got it all straightened out! Let me know if you have questions about things, we can work to figure all this stuff out together!

Ok well the bad news is that perimeter parking sucks and there is nothing you can do about it. Thats not entirely true, if you carpool you can get a much closer spot. The good news is next year they will allow you to pay them more money to park in central.

The first week or two there will be plenty of parking behind the student center which isn't exactly close to the classroom but its not too far. Then the rest of the school will come start back and that parking lot will be very difficult to get into. If you get lucky and/or get there early enough you can still park in the student center lot. Otherwise there is the Chaffee lot which is just under 1/2 mile from the classroom. Its across 15th st down Laney Walker and then Chafee st is on the right. There is a shuttle which lots of people waited for but I always walked it b/c it was usually faster b/c the shuttles aren't very regular.

Second year I paid the extra for central. The parking garage is right next to the med classrooms. Its wonderful.

I still haven't figured out how to log into WebCT. I can log into MyMCG, Pulse, and GroupWise but for some reason not WebCT. Is your login name different for WebCT? Thanks.

Erin-

Student Center Lot will still be extra per hour even if we have a parking pass right?

Thanks.

With the Award letter, after we change the values of the awards what do we do next? Is it accepted or not? The link where it says Acceptance Agreement doesn't even work so dont know what that is.

Yeah. Just to be clear in my previous post I was referring to the perimeter zone lot BEHIND the student center. You may not have even seen it on your interview b/c its kind or out of the way. The lot IN FRONT of the center is a pay lot. Unfortunately a lot of people used to use it for regular parking and would just stay there all day until after 6 when the lot becomes free. There was never any parking there during the day so they started ticketing students who parked there for longer that an hour. Not sure if they are still really cracking down on this or not.

I still haven't figured out how to log into WebCT. I can log into MyMCG, Pulse, and GroupWise but for some reason not WebCT. Is your login name different for WebCT? Thanks.

If its still the same as when I started, it should be first initial followed by last name (just like groupwise) but then followed by month and birthday like mine is elastname0306. Then password was last four digits of your social. I'm not sure if they still do that for the initial password so try that and then various combinations. Of course you could just wait until orientation b/c you don't need webCT until you are getting your course handouts, as thats all its really used for. They may not even have anything up on it yet.

Good luck

I spoke to the office of finaid and they said that they need a letter in writing stating the change you want to make on your award. I dont understand why we would do that if we also can do it online, but that is what I was told. Also, in terms of the WEBCT and not being able to log in...I also havent been able to log in. Has anyone figured that out? I know it said something about looking around WEBCT on the 29th or so, but is it disabled until then?

I just got an email back from IT and they said that WebCT will not work until the first day of classes.

Double Post...sorry

Hey guys, I was just told that there is a facebook group for the class of 2010, for those of you who do the facebook thing. There are 75 or so members already. Seems like a good way to see some the folks in your class. Just search mcg 2010.

Just wanted to let everyone know...They have added 2 books to our book list since they sent out the orientation packets. A medical ethics book and a medical testing book of some type.

They have them on order and are supposed to be getting them in next week sometime.

do you know the estimated cost of either of these books?

Kitra101 said:

Clinical Ethics 29.95

Studying a Study and Testing a Test 48.95

Hi future classmates,
This is kinda random, but does anyone know how to actually recieve your student loans? I just want to take out the 8000 subsidized loans that I qualified for but I haven't dealt with student loans before and I don't know how to do it. Do I just walk into the Student Aid office when we get down there for orientation? Is there a deadline? (if so when?). Sorry to ask all of you but the FA office has been very busy and hasn't returned my calls.
Enjoy our last week of freedom,
Fizzbot
