Hey guys,

One of the requirements for MCO is an essay explaining "why do you want to pursue optometry?". Im sure everyone on this site knows why they are going to optometry, but what can I ramble about for two freakin pages??? lol Can anyone tell me their reason so I can read all your answers and make up a formal answer for myself? Thanks a lot! 🙂

2 Pages?! I can't even write a half a page.

I wouldn't try to make-up stuff.

Maybe you can make a list of reasons why you want to go into optometry. Then take each reason and write about it.

Don't copy our reasons. Maybe you have reasons that is not popping into your head at the moment but may show up in the list in people's replies. So read the replies and pick which ever reasons that applies to you.

My reasons:
- work environment
- job security
- work for myself
- help people improve their quality of life
- salary
- time for family and self after work
- no midnight shift or emergency calls
- raise my social status

I'd say that everyone has just about the same reasons to go into optometry. Of course there's a little bit of variance with each individual.

That being said, I'm sure they read the same reasons over and over again. The Admissions Committee just wants to see that you are well written and sound intelligent. Try to sound genuine and moving in your writing. Make them not want to stop reading even after they finish.
