Is there a supplemental application for "transfer" students? On their website, they list transfer students as second or third years in college and must apply through pharmcas. But they do not list an additional supplemental application as compared to the first year applicants.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Somehow I don't see any supplemental for transfer students. Worchester and Manchester already have their supplementals posted but somehow I don't see one for Boston. I will call them to verify.

How did the phone call go? Were you able to reach them?

I've been wondering for a while now...can people who hold a BS degree apply to boston? Or can we only apply to Worcester and Manchester?

And how did that phone call go?

Yes, you can still apply to the Boston campus if you hold a BS degree. But you will be applying as a transfer student, which means that you'll be entering as a 3rd year student if you get accepted.

Okay, I called Boston today and they said there is NO supplemental for transfer students (students already with a B.S. and have already fulfilled their pre-pharmacy requirements). Supplemental is only for Worchester and Manchester campuses. I was really surprised but that is what the lady said.

Can someone call them again to verify this. Maybe I wasn't hearing right because it's too early in the morning or something.

Their number is : (800) 225 - 5506 (press 1 for admission information for Boston campus).

NICEEEE....are you for realls!?? YESS...one less application to do!!!!

Wow, I'm kind of surprised because I had to do one last year for the Boston campus. Also, on PharmCAS it says $40 is required under "supplemental requirements by institution".

awww man! I'm already applying to worcester. Can you apply to Worcester and Boston simultaneously? I'd much rather go to Boston

Yeah that is why I got really confused when the lady said that there is no supplements for Boston. My friend applied last year and she said she had to do a supplemental. I am going to call again tomorrow to get everything verified. If any one else contacts Boston and get some kind of answer please let the rest of us know, because this is too good to be true.

To optomistic01: I don't think you are allowed to apply to 2 campuses. You can only apply to one.

I know for a fact that we can't apply to both Worcester and Manchester campuses. I'm not sure if we are allowed to apply to Worcester and Boston at the same time though. I had submitted everything for Worcester already.

I talked to the Admission Counselor, Nicole, today. And this is what she said:

1) If you already have a B.S. and have fulfilled your pre-pharm prereq, then you apply as a TRANSFER STUDENT.

2) There is NO SUPPLEMENTAL for TRANSFER STUDENTS.

3) You can only apply to ONE campus (Boston or Worchester or Manchester).

If you want to talk to an Admission Counselor call (617) 732-2992.

I guess you weren't dreaming that morning then. Thanks for calling to confirm this. 🙂

WHAT! REALLY?!? does this also refer to those who are expecting a B.S. /fulfilling the pre-req prior to Fall 2009??

Freshman applicant: The PharmD program at MCPHS-Boston is a 6 yr program meant for students to transition from high school into pharmacy.

Transfer applicant: for students who have received or will receive their B.S., and have finished or will finish all pre-pharmacy classes before entering in the Fall. Transfer applicant will enter MCPHS-Boston as a 3rd year student or as a 2nd year student in the PharmD program (6 yr program).

If you will be receiving a B.S. and have finished most of your pre-pharm classes then you should apply as a transfer student through PharmCAS. If you apply as a freshman, then you will be forced to retake all of the pre-pharm classes again, and that is a waste of time and money. What is the purpose of spending four years trying to get your bachelor degree then? 😕

I hope this helps. You can also call MCPHS-Boston and talk to the Admission Counselor.🙂

What about those who don't have a BS and don't plan to either???

I guess as long as you plan on completing the prereqs before matriculation, then you can apply as a transfer student. That's what I did two years ago when I was a junior just to give it a kick.

Wow I'm confused now. Okay, so we apply through pharmCAS only for Boston? Are they saying only freshman application uses the common application and if you used the common application then your applying as freshman and have to retake all the classes?

They have different application enrollment ratios and average GPAs and GPA range (boston has better ratio and greater range, but higher average GPA) so I'm confused as to which I should apply to. I really don't care about which location, just which school I have the best shot of getting in. I'm tempted to just go the easy route and apply to Boston, but not sure and wondering if I should do Worchester as maybe this year less are applying there as they have supplemental application.

If you're planning on applying as a transfer student, then you only need to submit your PharmCAS since the Boston campus doesn't require a supplemental application this year. I had already finished my supplemental app for Worcester last month. I decided to apply to Worcester because it's a 3 yr program and just in case if I want to do it in 3 years (that is, if I change my mind later on). I still prefer to go to a 4 yr school though. I'm guessing that Worcester is a bit tougher because adcom must find applicants who are capable of handling the stress and rigorous program in a shorter time frame. But then again, you get to save a little bit of money and effort on the supplemental app for Boston.

So Year 2 means 5 year program? and Year 3 means 4 year? Is that saying you have to do 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th year? I'm mainly confused about how they know your transfer and which year you want to enter if all they have is pharmCAS. I wanted to apply earlier, but since I have to decide between them keeps getting delayed. If its all comparably the same I will rather just apply to Boston as I like city environment, 4 year is fine (I want to enjoy my grad school although in the long run it saves me a lot more money by going 3 year) and I'm already swamped with tons of supplementals to do and running low on money. Boston also seems to accept more applicants, so that could mean even though Worcester has lower average GPA the number of students accepted with GPA around 3.2-3.4 (lower than average) could possibly be about the same for both schools. Really not sure which to apply ARRRGGGG! Should I email or call one of the schools to ask which campus has the most academic forgiveness and account for strong upward trend? Seems like they are very separated from each other in terms of knowing how other campus reviews applicants, so hard to really know.

Statistics for 2008 Entering Class Acceptees *
Number interviewed - 140 **
Estimated number accepted - 60 Year 2 students and 25 Year 3 students
Estimated entering class size - 120 Year 2 and Year 3 enrolled student body
Estimated number transfer students - 85 total

* Data as of April, 2008
** Interviews are only required for Year 3 entrance

The Boston campus is a 6 year program. So, if you enter as a transfer student, you will be entering as a 3rd year student or otherwise known as a 1st year professional. The first 2 years are just 2 years of taking prerequisite classes. If you are not planning on completing the prereqs before matriculation, then you can apply for year 2 entry and finish those classes in Boston before starting your 1st professional year. In general if you want to do a 3 yr program, then consider Worcester or Manchester. I'm kind of reluctant about attending a 3 yr program, considering the fact that I'll be in school all year round and that I'll have to seriously keep up with my studying for exams coming up very frequently. But then, I can imagine that a 4 yr program is just as tough.
