I'm just curious what other people think, given the choice would you go to Touro or MCPHS worcherster or Manchester? Why?

I don't know anything about Touro, but I would choose Worcester over Manchester. more of the classes are taught in Worcester and the classes are larger there.

I struggled with this decision also especially since I had interview requests from both schools.

It's tough. Here are reasons why I would pick each school.

MCPHS: It's accredited. Yes..there have been some bad stuff said about this school, BUT, the main thing is that it is accredited and they have graduated lots of pharmacists. Nicer area. More stuff to do outside school. I believe there is a big theatre across the street. Better security. Good atmosphere for studying. I believe MCPHS is a good school b/c it's in MA where alot of the good schools and IV leagues are. More mature and older crowd b/c 3 yr. program.

Touro: I didn't like the segregated area at all since it used to be an old naval base. Vallejo isn't the safest area either... It's not accredited, though I believe that in time, it eventually will be, but there's still that chance...
Good program- 2+2, 4 yrs. If you want to practice in CA, it's better to go to a CA school because you'll learn the CA laws for your jurisprudence test to become a licensed pharmacist in CA.

However, it doesn't matter where you go to school really, you'll still become a pharmacist regardless. Who says you can't study the CA laws on your own and still pass and become licensed in CA? I keep hearing that there are several current students in MCPHS originally from CA.

Main point- both schools have their positive and negatives, it just depends what YOU consider are important points in choosing a school.

Personally, I would have rather gone to MCPHS.

Good luck with the decision.

just to add...the CJPE is the hardest state exam to pass and MCPHS had a 68.6% passing rate in 2005

also, touro has candidate status; you are eligible to sit for the Board exam and a pharm school w/candidate status has the same rights/privelages as a full accredited school

please feel free to message me with any questions/concerns you have 🙂
im a p1 at touro.

I would recommend Touro all the way....It's an excellent pharmacy school....faculty is small and they really go out of their way to help you out. Worcester....way too many people and thier reputation isn't that good on having an excellent pharmD program...just check out the post 3-4 days ago about the flaws of MCPHS

I would assume then that your vote is for Touro. I will be attending MCP-Worcester this fall so obviously we agree to disagree. However, I know nothing about Touro so I can't say anything about the program. I agree with Swanchick84...you have to pick which program works best for you and which one you like best. As far as the CPJE pass rates...I'm not sure but I think you're looking at MCP-Boston stats. If you scroll down at http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/publications/04_05_stats.pdf
then you will see MCP-Worcester stats. I think this link is for 2004 but MCP-Worcester had 19/22 passing, which is about 87%. There are a number of reasons for why Boston’s #s may be lower. First and foremost, the number of students enrolled. The more students you enroll the less selective overall you can be. Also, the typical student at Worcester is a little older, which may or may not play a role in the stats. I think the stats for Worcester in 2005 were 3/4 passing so that's not really a big enough sample size to conclude anything. I personally have always looked at U. of Michigan as one of the best public schools in the nation but in 2005 they had only 1/5 pass the CPJE. That doesn't mean they have a bad program it just implies that what matters most is the student. If the school is accredited then it is good enough for any of us and it's what you put into your studies that will make the difference. Sorry if the post is a little long but I wanted to dissect these numbers a bit. Anyways, best of luck with your decision.

Last year, I was accepted by a couple of schools including some CA schools, MCP-Worcester and other school in other state. I had chosen MCP-Worcester over other schools not because it was the best school out of the schools that I had been accepted but because it was a 3 year program. I didn't get accepted by UCSF, so other schools were all about the same from my perspective. I am not pursuing careers in research or other sectors than traditional areas, so even though UCSF gave me an admission, I would hesitate the decision anyways. I was a career changer and getting it done 1 year earlier was really a big deal for me.

Regadring the law test, it is true that graduates from CA schools may have some advantages. However, you will be prepared and able to pass the test regardless of school you attend as long as you put in time and effort.

Choose MCP if you are mature and focused... it goes a lot faster than 4 year program and lots of tests to take per week. But you will be out of school a year earlier and enjoy your life.

If you still want to wait for other schools, another consideration is DEPOSITS:

Touro: $2000 due two weeks after acceptance letter.

MCPHS: $750 due a month after interview date
