I've been accepted to both MCPHS (Boston) and USP for the 0-6 pharmD program
Please tell me the pros and cons about each school
MCPHS gave me scholarship and USP didnt MCPHS will be around 9 grand cheaper to attend
However, USP is an hour and a half from my house and MCPHS is around 8

PLEAEEEEEEEEE help me!!! 🙁
It doesnt help that the pharmacy acceptance open house date are both on the same date...

P.s: Heard about some not that great things about MCPHS...
But...USP is in philly..

Why so negative about Philly? Philly is a great city.

But, 9k a year, or 9k overall? If 9k overall, keep in mind that cost of living in Boston is much higher.
If 9k a year, do MCPHS.
No scholarship at all from USP? Not even 5k a year for 4 years? Man they're getting ridiculously expensive for u guys.

I was just curious, what some not that great things about MCPHS have you heard? and what were your sources? I mean, I can't imagine that there's one perfect school out there. I'm asking only b/c I have an interview there this Friday.

how was your interview in MCPHS? I will have an interview on mar 18. what essay questions did you get? was it hard? could you share some details of the essay with me? thank you.

Just to let you know, the only reason 0-6 programs are doing interviews is because ACPE is making them (source: admissions). Therefore, they don't care about the interview as much as you think, so you shouldn't be nervous about it.

OP would be entering from high school. 2nd and 3rd repliers are transfer applicants. (These are highly reasonable inferences. I would know about late March interviews...) Progression interviews for non-transfers are a joke at MCP and probably for other 0-6 programs, too.

I am count as a 3rd year transfer applicant at MCPHS and will have an interview on Mar 18. Are you a current pharm student in there. Could you have any idea about the interview essay?

The writing sample is like an essay you might write for the GRE... get a topic and a question related to that topic, take a position, defend that position.

two words: wage tax

granted boston has...the celtics, bleh.

it's a wash, just be careful where you live and learn some self defense classes and/or carry some mace.

I thought I will get an instruction and read an article, then complete the essay.have you been interviewed there? are you sure about getting a topic (not several, not article) and defending the position?🙂

Yeah the Philly city tax is horrible. I think I'll be working in Delaware County (and moving back to DE) in May, so hopefully, I'll keep more of my money, as there'll be less income tax and no sales tax!

I was asked to read an editorial and also was asked to address the writer's claims. Just because I did this in the past doesn't mean it will be the same for you (technically we were also asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the interview process)

thank you for your imformation. at least i have a basic idea about the it

I live in Philly now and attend USP grad school...
With that being said, I would go to Boston. Philly isn't that great of city. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice aspects of the city but overall, I think Boston would be much better. And as you mentioned, USP is a very expensive school...VERY!!!! Also, I know several students who started out in the pharmacy program but they dropped out and chose another degree to pursue because they said that the program was killing threm.

I like USP's grad program and the pharmacy program, I'm sure, is top notch but really think over the whole idea of living in Philly. If you have never lived in a 100% urban area, I would think the idea over....The school is adjacent to an area of town that is not good at all. On the other hand, everyone from the administration down to the cafeteria workers are beyond friendly and helpful.

PM me with any questions!
