get your books and/or insignia apparel? I know it used to be available at Tatnuck Booksellers in Worcester, but that just closed. Do you have to order from MCP-Boston bookstore or are items available at the Tatnuck Bookseller in Westboro now? Anyone have knowledge of how good selection is at either of those places (I'd rather not drive to Boston store if it won't be worth it)

Thanks in advance!

Some rep for AACP or something makes order forms at the beginning of the semester for that semester's books, and you can order them through that person by a deadline date. They have member and non-member prices. The books don't come all at the same time, so you might get immunolgy one day, biochem a few days later, etc. Last semester it took like 2 months for 1 of the books to come in.

I use the internet to buy my books. Amazon, abebooks, half.com, I shop around. The easiest way is plug the ISBN # into Pricegrabber and see who has the lowest price--you can always get it cheaper than the school is selling it for. So far, I have ordered all my books this way and have received all of them within a week.

As for apparel, sometimes various organizations sell shirts in the lobby. When Boston groups sell stuff, we get an email about it with ordering info, etc.

Hey,

While we're talking about books, do you have time to do all of the assigned reading? Do you read the book or just study off of lecture notes/powerpoint slides? The school is accelerated and I don't know how much reading there will be each week.
Do the teacher's utilize powerpoint a lot or do the students just write down whatever the professor says?

I went to a quarter system undergrad school and most of the students just studied off of powerpoint slides. If something didn't make sense, we referred to the textbook.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm starting to think you are the only Worcester MCPer that visits this board 🙂

When/how do you find out which books you need? I know the classes have already been scheduled. I always order my textbooks online too, & I know the earlier, the cheaper, so I was just wondering.

Thanks DrugDealer. As always, you rock. 👍

All of the classes use PowerPoint. For most of the classes, you buy a "course packet" at the beginning of the semester that has the entire semester's slides in it. For some classes (those with a different speaker each class period or those with a disorganized professor), the slides are posted online a day before or the morning of class, and you can just print them out and bring them with you.

I find time to do all the assigned reading. It helps me to read a coherent paragraph instead of just bulleted notes or incomplete thoughts, which is mostly what are on the slides. And often, what I read in the book are all the little details the professor mentions in class that aren't on the slides--so if you miss something, you still have a reference for that info. I know a lot of students study just from the slides, though, so either approach seems to work.

Y'all are so nice! 🙂 Last semester, I noticed a few posts from a classmate (whom I do not actually know) called gordo-something, maybe gordo1979? I haven't seen anything from him in a while.

For our fall books, they gave us the list at orientation, but a few students had apparantly emailed the school and received the list earlier. For our spring books, they emailed us in October with the info. I would suggest emailing someone in admissions to see if you can get the list.
