MCPHS Worcester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn't worry too much. I haven't heard of anyone who wants a parking pass not get one. Just make sure you apply for one as early as you can. Worst case scenario, you car pool or get a pass second semster if they are out first semster. I am in MAnchester and we have ample parking but I know Worcester has parking issues bc of space in the city. You'll be fine.
Thanks a lot nopharmsnofood, I greatly appreciateur responds.

thank you so much! I have been EVERYWHERE looking for info....

I appreciate it! And congratulations on your approval...
Really? I asked Lynn about the loan and he said I should wait till June before applying. I dont know the reason why we should wait till that time. Does anyone know?

I was told the same thing...

don't we have to wait ill June? how do we apply..thanks

Again, I'm not entirely too sure. When I called and talked to him, I already applied and he said if I got a confirmation from them then I should be all set. He never said, nor was I told to apply in the summer. It was relatively straightforward to apply once you clicked on the apply for grad plus loan link.

I am a little confused about Grad PLUS loans, that is separate when you apply for Fafsa correct? When you apply to fafsa, they only give you an unsubsidized loan and grad PLUS loan is only if you want extra loans on top of that correct guys?

I realized grad PLUS loans have a 7.9% interest rate as opposed to 6.8% for the regular unsubsidized loans from fafsa? Can somebody elaborate on the differences on those two types of loans, if anybody knows...

You are correct in your assumptions. There is only one type of loan available from completing fafsa that you cannot apply for: unsubsidized. The school gives these out on an as needed basis. Additionally, you can apply for grad PLUS loans to cover your additional expenses needed for the school.

You can apply for the grad PLUS loans and if you are accepted initially, great! You end there and wait for school to begin. If you are denied, you can apply with a cosigner at that point who has better credit than you and hopefully then you can get the loan you need.

There are other ways to pay for school, one of them being SallieMae (www.salliemae.com). They also do school loans with variable interest rate. Alternatively, you can get loans from your local bank and credit unions, however, that interest rate may or may not be too appealing, depending on who you know and where you go.

it seems that the 5k a semester they allocate for housing is kind of high, especially for those living on campus. i finished all my signing up for my loans as well (mpn, entrance counseling direct plus, and unsub) but i adjusted that worksheet to reflect a more reasonable number. first year i'll be taking out about 58k.

I sent Lynn an email asking about what loan period should I put when applying for the direct plus loan. he gave me my answer but didn't say anything about waiting until june.

Hi everyone, congrats to everyone who got in!
I have my interview in a few weeks. I submitted my application pretty late. Can anyone PM me or let me know the kinds of questions they asked? I didn't do so well on my other interview, so I really need to do well here! Also, any tips for someone like me who doesn't have much pharmacy experience?

Also, I booked a hostel in Boston and plan on taking public transportation to the school. Anyone around the area to say if this is feasible or not? I know the T doesn't go to Worcester so..

Thanks! 🙂

Is that true that not only the tuition increase but also the housing?
15000 a year is a lot of money. I called admission, they don't know about it.I left message for financial services, but they didn't call me back yet. And it's been a week already. I think I am gonna withdraw my housing app.

I think you're misunderstanding what those numbers on the worksheet are. They are hypothetical numbers that you can change to anything you want - on the website there is a schedule of fees and I got these numbers from it....

for 2012-2013 for housing PER YEAR (meaning cumulative for fall, spring and summer for us)

Lincoln renovated single 8500 (2834 per semester)
Lincoln renovated double 6600 (2200 per semester)
Lincoln standard single 7200 (2400 per semester)
Lincoln Standard double 5650 (1884 per semester)

For Boryshek Living and learninc
Studio 11650 (3883 per semester)
2 person 9350 (3650 per semester)
3/4 person 10950 (3650 per semester)
6 person 7425 (2475 per semester)

So these numbers highlight that it is nowhere near 15k to live at school.
I hope that this cleared some things up for you.

Thank you very very much for all your inputs, Pharmacopeia516!
I really appreciate all your time you have put into this.
I saw those number online too, but it just conflicts with the award letter worksheet, thanks for clarifying this.
As for the tuition, do you think it's the same on the worksheet or those numbers on the worksheet are correct.
I called the admission, and they said 42,650 or something like that. It's the same number that i got from the web site.
But when I asked them about the amount increased on the worksheet, they don't know about it. and transfered me to the financial services, but they haven't returned my calls back yet even though I left them a voice mail a week ago.

I think it is safe to assume that the fees on the worksheet are in the right range. I'm not toally sure, but there is always a rate increase - every year.

Hey all,
I'm gonna have my MCPHS interview on April 22 and looking to share a hotel room with another candidate since it's too expensive for me to afford on my own. I'm thinking of Hilton Garden Inn ($114/night) which is in walking distance to campus. email me at [email protected] if interested. Thanks

The mariott near the school has a special rate for MCPHS. It was $90 or $95 a night if I remember correctly. Good luck!

Dear all,
Just got to know this forum from my friend, I know its pretty late.
Congrats to all who got accepted 👍👍
I will have my interview on April 16 and I m really nervous about it. Can anyone give me any hint about how the interview process and what type of questions they will ask?
Thank you very much
Hope can see you all in fall😍

Hello classmates,

I just sent my $1000 check to MCPHS last Friday ( I am from Seattle). What are the next steps that I am supposed to expect from the school ? And will the school send out the information about housing or dorm at all ?

I am getting worried because I heard nothing back from them (financial aid or admission office) after I sent the check. It is 1 week of mailing already, so I supposed my enrollment letter should arrive a few days ago.

If you guys have done finding the place to stay, can you please tell me where to start ? This is my first time living away from the family so I had no experience of finding places or roommates. My preference for this first year might be Lincoln 10 (which everyone is talking about), or the apartment (if anyone is interested to have me as a room-mate).

Thank you

they didnt send me anything back either. i called to confirm and they said they got the check. at some point, they'll mail out info for dorming and materials / books you need to get. if you want an apartment, then you should research it yourself asap.

Thank you so much Sue,

No doubt why you are a senior member here 🙂 You have been helping out A LOT . This class forum would have gone crazy without you because everyone (or ones like me) freaks out for the new transition.

Van

I got accepted to worcester too! I was wondering if anyone can give us their opinion of foster street housing?

It's my pleasure! I spent so many hours looking at everything I have to share it all. Lol.

Did you get to choose which dorm you would like to stay at when you filled out your enrollment form ? In my enrollment form, they only asked for housing reservation ($250). So I am not sure which dorm I will be assigned to live. However, I would prefer to stay at Lincoln and hope they will set me up for that place too.

At this point, finding apartment is another headache process which I don't think I can get through while I am currently very far away from Worcester. Maybe in P2 I can start for apt.

no. they had some housing preference form previously but realized its outdated so they're going to send out updated ones a bit later. as long as you submitted the extra $250, you're fine for now.

Ok good. I was pretty sure I didn't get a housing form myself, just a deposit option. I really want to stay at foster street. I hope there's still room there!

I have an interview coming up in a couple of weeks can someone please tell me what types of questions I should expect?
