MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does the 2nd year class have people who shush the other adults in their class?

adults shouldn't have to be shushed. that being said, if shushing is required, shushing should be administered.

I think the only time that really happens in these parts is when the instructor is ready to start and the people up front realize it and help to quiet the rest of the class. We're a noisy bunch between lectures.

considering lecture attendence is down to less than 50% at times....usually you can hear crickets in the back.

You all are too hungover to go to class? Buncha boozers.

Screech has a sex tape?!

good ol' Dusty Diamond is reportedly packing a knee-slapper, no less. He's from this region and hates being called Screech.

So, Screech does have a sex tape out, true. It includes two females concomitantly (sorry, the Berg/Stryer book uses that word all the time).

zoiks! I'm going to download it.

+pad+ what a dumb smiley icon thing

What are "small group tutoring sessions"?

How poorly do I have to do in order to get invited? I feel left out.

I knew that word looked familiar. I think I saw it written a couple of times in our notes or in another text book somewhere.

I think you have to either fail or low pass, but I'm not totally sure.

you will all be sorry

It's a result of trying to study and surf the internets concomitantly.

The brown one in the picture who is clearly out for revenge. I didn't laugh at it, really! Okay, maybe I chuckled behind my hand.

hmmmm... rabbit in a picture, eh? I still think you're seeing things. You must be talking about Harvey. 😉

Wilson: Who's Harvey?
Miss Kelly: A white rabbit, six feet tall.
Wilson: Six feet?
Elwood P. Dowd: Six feet three and a half inches. Now let's stick to the facts.

Wasn't there some kind of count down or something of that nature?

Yes. I think it must be about the Great Brooding Bunny, coming to get us. (shudder)

I'm more scared of Devo. Here I thought I had it all under control and now I've lost track of what tissue becomes what in every possible way. I laugh at the big scary bunny and its pharyngeal arches, too!

Just don't try to ID the pharyngeal arches on the cadavers in anatomy.

But larynx! Pharynx! Mandible! All from pharyngeal arches! Pharyngeal arches are our friends! And the thyroid, and the story of its heroic odyssey from the tongue to its distant home in the throat, and the little bits of gland that sometimes, tragically, get left behind!

The exams are a week away and I'm nuts already. Block II SUCKS!

Didn't you score a 98% on the last devo exam? I don't wanna hear any whining from the devo ace.

By the way, your cadaver has a nice trigeminal/ middle meningeal set up. I couldn't see the chorda tympani though...was it in there?

Hella awesome lightning tonight. Spent some time around midnight out by the old TB sanitarium photographing it...never tried that before. We'll see how the long-exposure action worked out!

If I could make $150,000 a year roaming around with my camera I'd be out of this place so damn fast....

98% my patootie. You must have me mixed up with someone smart. I think my lab partner who didn't study much and never went to lecture got a 98%. You probably also have me mixed up with someone who has another cadaver, because we cut our middle meningeal. We have a nice stump where it used to be, but I don't think that makes it exam material. We do have a corda tympani of the left side, if you follow the lingual nerve up into the head far enough. PM me if you want to stalk my cadaver. 😉

Oooooh... that would've been awesome. I want to see the pictures, please! I was at my apartment with my parents. Not roaming around taking pictures -- something I always wanted to do in Arizona during the monsoon lightning storms.

bark! bark! bark!

(that's an inside joke for April)

I feel so special for having an inside joke with you! 🙂

The stormy weather has taken care of my barking problem though.

i'm just really mad cause the rain was pounding against both of my windows and I couldn't really watch the storm very well.

ps...when I was out taking lightning photos last night, i urinated in the field, all alone in the dark. i'm a rebel. then a county sheriff car pulled up nearby and sat there, so I freaked out, took a few more photos, and left. Don't think he ever saw me.

if i got anything good, i'll post it here. never tried shooting lightning before.

It's kinda odd that we live in the same apartment complex, and yet you had rain beating against your windows, and I didn't even know that it rained that hard.

Subject change: Who's ready for some playoff baseball? GO TWINS!!!!!

quick question, does anyone know about small group biochem tutors? I passed my first exam but I think I really need help with block 2 biochem so is there any way i can make that happen? also if anyone does know about the small groups, what type of advice and tutoring do they give you?

I heard a 1st year refer to tuesdays as "touchy feely tuesday" to a 2nd year student and the 2nd year acted offended. Anyone know why?

If you have to ask, that's bad enough.

generally, you have to be invited. (see earlier posts). You could maybe try asking... Can't say what goes on there though.

I hate Tuesdays.

And now I'm really disappointed that I missed an Arrested Development clip.

I missed it too...but I was busy getting an extra 2 hours of sleep in. Yeah!

I found touchy feely tuesdays offensive as well.

good news guys. I got some mirror-tinted film to put on my gas mask's eyepieces.

By the way...

ethics small group facilitators should NOT take the role of a female in a "breaking bad news" role playing session if any of the following are true:

a. 2 female facilitators are also present and capable
b. easily could have switched the scenario to a male
c. students already think you're weird
d. you find it necessary to talk in a high pitched voice and sob uncontrollably "like a woman."
e. All of the above.

The answer was E in my group today. I've never been more disturbed in my life.

One of my ethics preceptors was this guy we called "super intense grad student"... and it was the most descriptive, fantastic nickname in the history of the world. He liked to lecture us on philosophy, which usually didn't work so well because we're a bunch of crazy people.

And also, post-call is an excellent time to be posting on SDN instead of sleeping. Yay.

So, will graduating from MCW make me competitive for a Dental residency?

Probably not, but I hear we have a lot of students match into competitive UPS Driver residency programs.
