MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't mean to sound anal or anything; like I said before, I remember irrelevant details, but it was halfway through first semester that they started it -- about Octoberish. I listened to parts of a funny lecture from devo (the pediatric cardiologist) in October and Schwab in December but only because he's awesome (I was sad that they weren't recording mp3s in September the first time Schwab lectured). The one time I did skip class just to skip, the first day of phys after the block 2 exams, the taping system didn't work, and I had to find other ways to learn the intro to renal phys. =(

I never found it hard to go to class, except MIM which I skipped religiously, except for the very first and last lectures. Sometimes now I find it hard to be in class, but showing up isn't too difficult.

Whoops. I must have missed the memo when they started doing that.

I can't really comment on the "was it hard to go to class" conversation. I started skipping at the beginning of M1 block 2 first semester. Or thereabouts. Ashleigh, correct me if I'm wrong. 😉

Well, remember, I didn't know who you were until the ski trip (even though you knew who I was -- that made me feel bad and unsocial -- I guess I still am pretty antisocial). I do seem to remember you posting about how you would check out the first block then start skipping, but I'm not claiming to be a confirmatory source on this. 😉

hey guys,
working on my ending credit sequence for our sexual history video (which hasn't been filmed yet). Taking suggestions for closing songs...whether it's something specific or just a general type of music. Was thinking something quirkey, but something overly dramatic might be good to go with the opening credits sequence (last of the mohicans main title)

I already have the storyboards started, and Andy can attest to the fact that it'll be exciting.

i still don't think i've actually met any of you in person...and I'm kinda glad because you all seem like a bunch of freaks.

When I think sex I think "The First Cut is the Deepest"

Ummm... I'd have to go with Sex Machine, by James Brown.

HAHA! Ok, so, Marc, you totally have to go with Don's idea and what you were talking about with having someone put a fuzzy coat on you.

I'm kinda thinking that a good song for my character is "Get Myself Into It" by The Rapture. That is if the doctor is astute enough to get into my social history and figure out some of my issues.

THATS ****IN' TEAMWORK!!!!!!!!!!

ironically the case calls for my name to be "Mr. Brown" and I was going to make my first name James. Hadn't thought about "Sex Machine" before though...hmmmm.....awesome idea.

This movie has promise to be the most action-packed sexual history-taking blockbuster of all time.

Only time will tell. Splat will be the Martin Scorcese to my James Cameron.

ATTN: M2 ladies - my wife wants to know what she should wear to the M1 reception. My old roommate works there, and I know it's a really formal joint, but she's worried she'll be over-dressed.

I now have an awesome new ringtone. Robin Williams singing "My Way" from "Happy Feet." Take that, Banana phone!

You do realize this means war, right?

to the Last of the Mohicans. Always an excellent choice, although I'd recommend track 2, personally.

As for a sex song, I DID sing Bad Touch by the Bloodhound Gang at Chancery karaoke.....and but Sexual by Amber is definitely a good touch too. However, if you want dramatic, either the Sorcerer's Apprentice or Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach (although Leopold Stokowski's orchestral version for Fantasia sounds better). Or the theme from Conan the barbarian.

really gotta see my storyboard for the opening to pick the right kind of music...far as I'm concerned the end credits are wide open...Conan isn't a bad idea though.
The others you gave aren't blatantly dramatic enough, sadly. I need BIG. Like, them from Sean Connery/Nick Cage The Rock big.

um, Hall of the Mountain King? Night on Bald Mountain? the last two minutes of Beethoven's 5th would be good. Or, if you want something that sounds like it's on the verge of madness, I've got something called the Russian Sailor's Dance, but I can't remember the composer. Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries also sounds pretty grandiose.

M2 man here, but my wife attended so I'll answer. I wouldn't go too formal like an evening gown or anything. More like a "cocktail dress" (whatever that means), or a tea-length dress, and of course you can't go wrong with the classic little black dress.

How about the Imperial March from star wars? When you hear that you know someone is going up against something formidable.

How about "Shaft"?

and what the hell is a tea dress?

So as I was walking to the WAC last night, a bunch of Tosa ambulances were pulling into the parking lot. Turns out, some 72-year old woman died in the sauna and was just laying there for who knows how long. Apparently two girls were in the sauna with her at some point, but they didn't notice she was dead. 😱 One of the M2 ladies was at the autopsy, and it turns out she was UWM faculty. Cause of death is still unknown.

I feel bad for all those paramedics and police officers. They had to do all their work in the women's locker room. Must've been tough for all those men. 😛

I saw her autopsy today. No cause of death found. The only abnormal thing was some minor pulmonary edema.

She was some world renowned psychologist. Never found out her name though. Developed some group method of something or other.

Jeeze, what a weird story. I saw a young guy walk out of the sauna then collapse and crack his head on the walkway by a pool...earned himself a Noneck and trip to the hospital.

That is sad that the lady died but at least she was comfortable.

and what the hell is a tea dress?

Tea-length dress. It's a dress that comes down to about mid-calf, usually with a diagonal slant to the hem.

And I swear to GOD, I only know that because my wife was debating tea-length vs. full-length dresses for her bridesmaids forever, which means I had to hear about it ad-nauseum. Why it's called tea-length, I have no idea...maybe they're good for drinking tea in?

Sad story. Reminds me of a CSI where a lady died in the sauna and the spa clerk pulls her body into the locker room to hide the fact that she hadn't checked on the sauna occupants every 15 minutes per regulations. At first they think she died of heatstroke, but then determine that her friend killed her by feeding her shellfish, which she was allergic to and went into anaphylactic shock from.

I was dressed quite diffferently from the Black Bag Ball. At the M1 reception, think a bit more conservative and not as dressy. It's not a "party," it's more like a business reception kinda thing. Although many people treated it as a party and got wasted last year. I don't recommend that. Anyway, I wore a tweed skirt and a couple layered camis. And heels. If in doubt, black works at pretty much all ocassions.

What group # are you for autopsies. Wanna get an idea of when I will finally be going. (I was fitted for the mask-deal in November).

OH! If any of you guys have syncope for the H&P osce thingy, it's not really syncope, the case is dizziness, so you get all prepared for syncope like they tell you and read the chapter, and you ask "did you lose consciousness? No? Oh crap."

Funk, I know you have syncope, so you may want to review dizziness instead especially for the ddx.

Yeah, I think I saw that one.

Ashers, I found out her name, but I have a feeling that sending it over the Internetz wouldn't be a good idea. It wasn't anyone I'd heard of before, and she just looks like an graying Korean lady.

Par for the course for CER. Maybe I should just kill two birds with one stone and bring a camera in there and take my patient's sexual history to fill out the 45 minutes they're giving us for the OSCE.

"Oh, so you feel dizzy, huh? We'll definitely get back to that. Now can you please tell me at what age you started exploring your body?"

she just looks like a graying Korean lady.

That's what she looked like on the table.

Funk, sounds like a good idea, but my patient mightn't've remembered her entire sexual history because she was 70. I was expecting a vasovagal type thing with a young person standing for a while or a cardiac problem.

Then for another case (i'm not sure what the other options are -- they're in my locker), someone said they were expecting GERD, but it had nothing to do with that.

I once had a vasovagal spell after running on a treadmill for a short period then doing a pretty mean abdominal set. Holy ****! On the way out of the gym I must've been pretty pale 'cause the people behind the counter stared at me. When I got to my car I had to put the AC on high and I put my legs on the open door. My heart was racing and I was sweating hard and I thought something was going to come out, projectile fashion, from every hole on my body.

My dr., who paid 7500/ year for tuition, said it was a vasovagal spell. What causes that? Abdominal pressure?

I don't know if I like the word "spell" in that last post. Let the record show that I used "episode".

what's mightn't've? Is that kind of like I'd've? 😀

yeah, i think enough personally identifying information about her has already been revealed.

Nothing has been revealed that probably won't be in the Journal Sentinel or on the 10:00 news tomorrow.

So I have my hx OSCE tomorrow. And I don't have this book they refer to. Is it in the library? Can I go through it tomorrow morning and be good to go? And how the hell is this gonna take 45 minutes?

I like the sexual hx double whammy idea. Let's just get all this crap out of the way.

No doubt. I just find myself dumbstruck at how frightened HIPAA has all of us poor med students.

I'm not worried about HIPAA so much as I am concerned about the appropriateness of us discussing it here. I know if one of my parents died I wouldn't want the details of their death discussed on an open internet forum if it was fairly simple to figure out who they were talking about.

I highly doubt the news/obit would discuss her being found in a hot tub dead, nor include accounts from those present at her autopsy.

I wasn't thinking HIPAA, really, given that I don't think any of us treated her or worked for an organization that did treat her. It's just that this lady isn't a public figure, or someone I know, and although it is unlikely her family is reading this forum, I feel uncomfortable talking about her when the police aren't even releasing her identity.

(That's right, I searched for the news story, because I'm all about the hypocrisy).

i heard someone else getting it checked out from the library...should be on reserve.

Edited to add:

Damn! AgentSplat types faster than I do! He posted while I was still typing! So now I just want to say, "Yeah. What he said."
