MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I fear for your patients if that's the kind of attitude you have towards academic challenges. You should relish the opportunity to utilize your knowledge in novel ways by solving problems that are clinically relevant. Do us all a favor and give up now.

Maybe I'm due to start a jaded "medicine is not a good career, take it from me" thread over there now?

...i kid...i kid...in fact, I HOPE there's a residency program for figuring out therapeutic indices, examining the difference between first and zero order reactions, and staring at logarithmic curves.

Yeah, I think it's called pharmacy school. You know, where they educate all of the folks that give a crap about that stuff and who will tell us how much of a drug we should give to a patient (along with our trusty PDA).

Do any of you know of a good auto body shop in this area?

I think I read that he hit a phone pole in the class of '09 thread. Is that true?

I can't believe there's still confusion about this.

Here's what happened. December 1st, 2005.

I was involved in a sting operation as an undercover information gatherer for the Drug Enforcement Agency and ATF. This is no longer a secret so there's no harm in saying so. From undergrad in Green Bay I had some connections to a large drug ring operating out of the GB area that was starting to work its way into Milwaukee. After an early morning raid gone bad thanks to a tipoff by a couple dirty cops, I was pretty much left to fend for myself with a couple P.O.'d dealers and low level enforcers on my tail in a moderate speed chase (thanks to the snow).

I was on Menominee blvd just off of North Ave trying to shake them when I saw a large patch of ice...it was pretty obvious anyone hitting it fast enough would take a nice plunge down the ditch near the Underwood park area...I swerved just enough to avoid it, but they still hit it and went into the ditch and rolled a couple times...the cost of this little evasive maneuver was my front end into a pole, but it gave me the time I needed. None of them were belted in so they all got a good shakeup with injuries nice enough to incapacitate them.

They still managed to get the whole drug ring shut down a few weeks later and the DEA confiscated a nice buttload of drugs and got locations to a few meth factories in the northwoods of Wisconsin. As for me? The federal government paid off my car repairs.

I remember it a little differently...

It was one of the first snowfalls of the year and my buddy mark was giving me a hard time in lecture about being from georgia the day before the storm. He didnt know "he who laughs first never laughs last." The next morning i get a call from a poor mark who was waiting for a tow truck. Did you hit another car?? Did another car hit him i asked. No, he replied..."i hit a pole".

Musta jumped out of the bushes huh mark 😛 😛

what'd you do? my father-in-law took my car to one that apparently was pretty cheap (my brother-in-law backed into my car with his mom's car).

I love it that you two are such good friends that you spell his name wrong.

I think that was shortly after he told me that people from WI forget how to drive in the snow, and I had better be careful when it starts snowing.

Exactly. The most important thing to know regarding kinetics, clearance, and all of that is the phone number of the inpatient pharmacy.

BALLS! I can't believe they ruined our beautiful thread! I just might cry...

On the other hand, first post! (from an MCW student, that is)

what???? that thread wasn't a 1000 post thread, it was a 4000 post thread!

maybe it is time to invade the 2011 thread 🙁

Notice that Dr. MOm's oklahoma thread isn't closed.

I call shenanigans!

Actually, Tkim is probably just going down the master list of threads sorted by post-count. Ours was nearer the top, and hence got deleted first, I'm guessing.

No way I will lower myself to posting in that 2011 thread. We must continue forth as the class of 2010 (and those of us who will always be your seniors in the medical hierarchy).

let's have this puppy back up to 4000 before the end of the school year.

at least we can start fresh now, forgetting some of the sour moments we had in the last thread...like how Andy admitted liking the early N*Sync days.

ironic, though, how donny got the last post in before it was closed...how appropriate, considering his ability to shut down a thread's activity...he finally administered a lethal dose of donny-ism. (who wasn't watching their therapeutic index calculations???)

kills threads dead!! :meanie:

hah. I noticed that too. He sure knows how to shut down a party.

HAHA! I hadn't even noticed that. So it wasn't a very high LD50/ED50.

maybe the forum has a CYP2C9 mutation that slows metabolism down and he remains active for too long, slowing the rest of us down.

I prefer to think of myself as functioning as a competitive equilibrium antagonist.

ahhh p450 humor makes me hungry. Is 2d6 the one that is upregulated in alcoholics?

Did any of you see the Dane Cook impression on SNL the other night?

Is she a ninja????

well... 2E1 is the famous one because that's the one that makes acetominophen a hepatotoxin. Uh oh, I'm not sure what induces 2D6 right now. I guess I can worry about that later since I'm "studying" the path I've ignored.

There may be enough of us around tonight to overcome your adverse effects on MCW thread-R.

That's exactly my reasoning. At low concentrations of agonists (y'all), I am easily overcome, and my effects dismissed by the organism (the thread). However, at low agonist concentrations, I am quite effective.
Also note that I do not alter the Emax of the thread.

Tori's dad 52 - I think he was a non-trad applicant getting housing advice. not sure if he's at school here now or if he withdrew acceptance
Hawkeye Kid 40 - this guy was a 4th year at MCW last year. Doing an EM residency now, I think in Indiana
Franimal 37 - He's a first year, don't remember his name exactly, but I could point him out

Wow, April and I were tied at 259 posts! Great minds...uh, um...post alike? Also, note the margin between April/me and the next highest poster, Xandie. 😱
