Does it ever hurt your feelings when you wake up the next morning with all of your clothes still on and no signs of hanky-panky to be found?

Nah, I make myself breakfast and then just assume that I'm a "nice guy" who didn't want to take advantage of me. Of course I'm not into nice guys so I never call me again.

 how do you like your eggs?

So are you 1st years planning on participating in the Dog Lab or not? I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

2nd years, make sure you're here with plenty of time before the Pharm test next Monday...the administration is saying there might be delays getting into the building since they're checking IDs. Hopefully they don't just half-ass this and let people buzz in the North doors while letting 15 people behind them in as well. I could totally see that happening.

I think I am. I'm a dog person so at first I didn't want to do it. But, I thought about it and if a dog is going to die I should at least learn something from it right? If a dog dies and nobody learns anything...that is the true tragedy.

I'm planning on doing it. I think that there is reasonably good evidence to use the dogs, and if they're not in pain, I don't have a problem with it. I'm sitting kitty-corner right now from someone in our class who vehemently opposes it though. I'm really not sure why he does...

just make sure you don't have the jerkoff mother****er A-hole doctor in with your group that says the dog's jerking motions are "reflexes" and that additional anesthetic is not necessary. We made him push more pretty damn quick after he said that, because I sure as hell wasn't going to put up with that.

I believed that claim when it was the pithed frogs with the slightly twitching toe (I thought I was imagining at first 😛), but if we have control of the anesthetic, I'll err on the overdose side.

So are you 1st years planning on participating in the Dog Lab or not? I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

I'm not. Although some part of my concern is the use of a random-source supplier for the dogs, I don't have a solid explanation for my reasoning, especially given that I'm all for killing cute little cowsies and chickenses for my lunch. But it bothers my conscience, and I have found that rationalizing myself into doing things that bother my conscience never makes me happy in the long run.

I figure for every 4 people who don't do it, that's one less dog.

The irony is that I'm picking up my dog that day from the kennel. 🙄

The kennel doesn't open until 8am. So I have to get my dog, bring her home and get to school by probably 8:45am. Should be enough time. I'd pick her up after the exam, but after 10am you get charged for another day.

Just bring your dog to the exam and tell the proctors that you wanted to make sure they had enough learning tools for the phys lab in the afternoon. 😉

Oh, and teach it how to bark all of the anti-emetics too.

So for those that went, what did you guys think of the lab?

Also, does one of you recent devo/anatomy studs recall what branch off the aorta a horseshoe kidney malformation gets stuck on? I'm thinking IMA, but I can't remember for sure.

yeah, inferior mesenteric. I didn't go to the dog lab. I was sick so I stayed home.

i had a patient with a horsehoe kidney over the summer. Wasn't really pertinent to the call, but he told me he had it.

I had a patient with kidney stones and a horseshoe kidney at the free clinic a few weeks back. He looked like he was in soooooooo much pain.

Of course, the first thing the clinic doctor wanted to know was whether or not we thought he was a drug-seeker.

Was he jumping up and down, and basically not able to sit still like Duenck said a kidney stone patient would be?

He wasn't doing jumping jacks or anything, but he mentioned (and I noticed) that he tended to shift around in his seat a lot, and while we were off checking his electronic chart for a past emergency visit he actually laid on the floor for awhile, which he told us (and you could tell from his demeanor) alleviated his acute distress.

Q: Is there anything that makes your pain feel better?
A: Hop scotch.

By the way, this message is brought to you by the committee for the massive, drunken celebration of Funk's birthday on Saturday, March 10th at Mo's Irish Pub on the corner of Hwy 100 and Bluemound Ave.

Be there. Seriously. I need friends (and drunkenness).

So for those that went, what did you guys think of the lab?
I liked it. Our group had Dr. Lombard, who was incredibly helpful. We just flew through the lab without a hitch. I did kind of wish we could have tried defibrillation a little more - we had a dog with a really big, strong heart, and I would have liked to have tried a few more things if possible. I had no idea that epi would just make the heart pound THAT hard. It was amazing to feel it.

Invite Divine Furor too.

I would hate to invite too many girls trying to get with this married guy. I think Milwaukee is nearly reaching critical mass for Funk groupies. 😉

They're supposedly worse than childbirth.

Try telling a woman in labor that.

There ARE things that hurt worse than childbirth (a woman who had two kids and later fractured her tibia assures me of this), but probably during labor is not a good time to bring this up.

My ex was surprised at the quantity of analgesia and sympathy offered him in the hospital when he had a kidney stone. It hurt, sure, and the morphine barely covered the pain, but quite a few of his migraines had hurt worse.

Migraines suck.

My mom said migraines are worse than childbirth. Since I only have migraines and haven't had a kid (that I know of) (prophylaxis -- topiramates, and acute -- sumitriptan and rizatriptan -- Yay pharm), I can't comment on the childbirth.

Why was topiramate the only drug today that they didn't list side effects? Something I'm actually interested in, they don't talk about.

Migraines are bad. My visual symptoms include not being able to read or even see the right half of words. Fingers 4 and 5 go numb on both hands but I'm only sensitive to light sometime and never sound. Luckily I don't get nausea.

One time I started getting visual symptoms while I was out to dinner so I drank 3 or 4 beers since I wasn't driving and the migraine never developed.

Hmmm, I usually only hear guys say that.

hehehe. maybe you should stop coming up and tickling me.

ok ok... i've got a migraine now, which makes me stupid. don't tickle me anyway.

Edit: so basically last night, I went out for wings with a bunch of guys, and I was sitting at the table, and these people walked in, looked at me, and were like "Is that a guy or a girl?" I might've been wearing a t-shirt and jeans, but I never thought I looked that much like a guy, or shemale or whatever.

Jeez. Whether you look like a dude or not (you don't) that's just plain rude.

Whenever my mom starts to feel a migrane come on she scarfs an entire Hershey bar. Works every time, according to her.

i have no clue how you could possibly be mistaken for a guy. That's messed up. unless maybe you grew a beard, cut your hair, and wore a baseball cap.

maybe just in case next time though, wear a dress.

I agree, that's pretty much insane. Of course, I get mistaken for a little kid all the time (like when someone asked me if I was the ex's daughter... he's 27), so weird things happen.

That still doesn't mean it's a good idea to bring it up to a woman who's in labor at the time.

That is a moot point because I don't talk to enlabored women. Babies are contagious.

I get chocolate/sugar induced migraines (among many other things which trigger them), so sometimes after I already have a migraine, and I have taken my meds, I eat more chocolate than I normally would, since it can't get any worse.

Oh, if any of you plan on going into primary care... not sure any of your are, just know that 7 year olds can get migraines, and don't refuse to give them migraine meds until they're 17. That's the first time I was ever taken seriously about migraines, and that wasn't until after I had had a CT of my brain to make sure I didn't have a tumor.

I dunno how anyone mistook you for a man. There are more than a few tip-offs for your gender....

Just sport mad cleavage next time?

Ummm... me, wear a dress? yeah right. That's for special occasions, maybe 2x/year.

I get people thinking I'm young too, maybe not as young as you, since you are younger than I. I still get carded in England (drinking age 18).

I'm not changing after school into a cleavage bearing shirt to go hang out with a bunch of guys at a bar just to eat wings. 😡

I'm a good gihl, I am.

tly welling flee mirrimeter creavage, ashree!

see my above comment, dork. You don't even go to wing night, so what would you care.

well, actually, i did, but stopped going when I noticed someone look at me and say to their friend, "why is that girl there with all those guys? You think she might be a hooker?"

i guess next time I go I shouldn't wear a dress.

Is that why you stopped shaving your beardy-scruff and stopped minox...?

Edit: I mean, stopped wearing a hat all the time?

Cleavage doubles as a place to secure a bib or large napkin on wing night.

So I really want to get in on the cleavage discussion....

My resident today was complaining about how little her boobs are, and that as soon as she gets any money, she's getting a boob-job. 😕 What the heck am I supposed to say to that? Keep in mind that she's evaluating me.
