new plan: I'm going to sit down and calculate if I can even get honors in biochem. Then, I will adjust my alcohol intake accordingly.

Ashers: Is your name pronounced ash-lee or ash-lay? I'm just trying to figure out how to pronounce that street called Burleigh.

My name is pronounced Ash-lee

The street is pronunced "Bur-'lie" accent on the long I sound -- no joke. One of the dumbest pronunciations ever. Up there with New Ber'-lin.

 I've been here over a year, and still not quite sure about the proper pronunciation of that street.

Ah, thank you. I was actually l leaning towards that option for no reason at all.

When I told one of my friends from Racine I thought it was pronounced "Bur-leigh" like my name would be, she said she was gonna start calling me "Ash-'lie." She did for a while... highly annoying, and I would've done something mean, but she's a lot taller than I, so I was a little scared, even though she's one of the nicest people I know.

BURR-lie.

If I get honors in biochem it will be because...well, I won't. If I bust my patootie, i can high pass.

Okay, here are my options:

Buy Windows XP from Ebay - probably ~ $60

Continue trying to find activation codes that'll work on my burnt copy of windows xp - tried ~10 codes already from various sources.

Say what the hell and buy a new laptop and quit putting money into my current one. My current laptop is just over 6 years old. Works fine mostly, but freezes frequently, sometimes the mouse simply goes away, the fan doesn't always work so it overheats and needs to be restarted, and the screen flickers upon movement and has stayed black on ~3-4 starts now.

Please discuss...

Edit: this decision needs to be made cuz I got an iPod (with my school supplies budget of course), but I can't even use the damned thing because I currently run Windows ME.

My laptop from Sept 2001 died this summer. I got my new one from Dell. They still have some deals.

Well, that's what the Milwaukee natives tell me.

I think everyone should talk like Californians (the Hawaii accent gets really annoying). It'd make my life easier. Or the English -- that'd be fun. =)

oh yeah... when I say californian... I do NOT mean valley girl. I get that annoying accent when I'm excited and it annoys the crap out of me.

So New Berlin is actually pronounced like Newbur Lin?

Check your PMs. I'm like Santa here.

Has anyone been to Leff's? I went in there a while back and I was the youngest by about 10 years. Also, I'm not a model or anything but the people in there were homely. Is this going to be a common theme in "w' SCANSIN"?

Yeah yeah. I watched a Brewers game there this summer with some friends from out of town. We were probably the youngest folk there by 5 years or so and we were challenged to try to eat a 5 lb. burger by some 300 lb. dude. I was never so happy to cruise on over to the Safehouse (downtown) in my life.

The Safehouse had old people there the time I went. Though, I love the glasses you get to keep when you buy drinks. =)

The Safehouse is definitely a touristy bar full of older folks. But it's cool enough to pull in some of the younger crowd and I have to say that the gimmicks in that place keep me entertained. I should probably go out there again sometime...maybe we need to plan an SDN spy party. 😉

Hopefully the rest of this year is not like this past block... if it is, I'll never have a life, ever again. I'm not fond of studying for the past 5 weeks or whenever block 2 started.

So New Berlin is actually pronounced like Newbur Lin?

Nope, it's new BURRlin.

Dunno why.

Where again are all the bars with the old people? I'm old people.🙂

I agree with Denise's New Berlin pronunciation, except you gotta say it like it's one word: newBURlin. Weird, since it was definitely named after berLIN, Germany by the immigrants in the area.

The real question is, how do you pronounce Vliet St.? (Continuation of Milwaukee ave in the Tosa Village.)

vleet?
vlee-et?
or is it French, like vlie-ehhhh?
or is it with a silent v, like l33t?

Leff's sucked the one time I was there, but it was during orientation week when it was crowded to the gills with MCW students and random softball teams. My wife's creepy cousin hangs out there, so I avoid that place. The owner of Neso's, the barbershop that shares a building with Leff's, used to own the bar, too. He has some cool stories from back in the day when it was a biker bar that all the Milwaukee Brewers hung out at.

GEEZ!!! I finally finished typing up my notes nearly 40 minutes ago. Since then I've been attempting to print them (2 pages/side paper/double sided to save paper). I've never had so many issues before. I've used over 200 pieces of paper to print what should've taken less than 25!!! Stupid printer.

Get ready for it:

vuhLEET. Seriously. TWO Milwaukee natives have confirmed this for me. The "uh" does go by really fast, so it's sort of like, v-LEET.

Wouldn't be able to guess that you're an old people. 😉

Um, that was my evil twin that said that. I'm young! Young! YOUNG! hahahaha!

Ow. I typed that too hard. Now my bursitis is acting up.

Oooh, do you have Student's Elbow? That would be very fitting, what with you being a student and all.

Thanks for the confimation on Vliet.

Actually I have shoulder tendinitis. You see, when an acromion and a humerus love each other very much...the bursar in between is SOL.

Anatomy lab is time consuming...your grade will probably correlate with how much time you spend in there.
If you're a hands-on learner, it will, but I'm not a hands-on learner. My time is better spent with a Netter most of the time. I felt guilty for not spending more time in lab until I realized I was doing fine on the practicals anyways.

Guilt is for the weak. Here at MCW, all strive to be ubermensch.

Mostly correct. (I'm a Milwaukee native as well.) I worked about two blocks from Vliet, and it's basically pronounced like "fleet" with a v.

I don't suppose you folks have dabbled in Oconomowoc, Menomonee Falls or Manitowoc yet, have you? Those aren't even the worst ones....

Ah, here it is. All you foreigners should love this site - she's mostly correct (I differ on her pronunciation of Waupaca - it's more like Wawpaca, not Wupaca).

Guaranteed you don't know how to pronounce Chequamegon

At least Hawaiian names are pronouncable because they're all phonetic.

who cares about Hawaii?? :runs:

Oh yeah, well now you're in the Axis of Evil. You, Iraq, Iran, and one of those Koreas. How do you like them apples, Prowler?

guys!!!!!!!!!!! apparently Rachael Ray works for CleanPower on weekends...she was using the floor cleaning machine near the CMUTS on second floor and took a break to TOTALLY make out with me.

Uhhh, I think you may have been tricked. How do I know? Well, the real Rachel Ray has been tied up in my basement for the past month.

aww, man, I would've snagged her to join me for a three way with Elisha Cuthbert, who works nights in the cafeteria on the weekend!

On a side note, is the real cafeteria mean to practically everyone, or just men? Because a friend of mine was going for six cents from the "take six pennies, leave a penny" cup for his $2.06 cup of soup when she tried to bite his hand or tell him no.

Anything more than four cents out of the cup is unacceptable. Even four cents is pushing it.

"take six pennies, leave a penny" cup

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa here. Whoa.

Cuthbert is off limits. She only dates Ninja Kings.

dawn of the dead is on. It is set here in milwaukee. Judging from the looks it is a pretty accurate depiction of the locals. heehee

haha, I was watching that too. It's a lot more graphic in the original version.

oh, and as much as I once loved Elisha, I forgot that Keeley Hazell is the anatomy lab janitor that none of you knew about:

Hot, hot, hot. And she has a thing for guys with a penchant for sneaking up on her in the dark.
