MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think I like Country Roads because of the harmony. Vocal harmony just makes me happy. Annie's Song I am very fond of. I don't think I've heard This Old Guitar or Wild Montana Skies more than once or twice, and I don't remember them.

Country Roads is definitely good. I have about 10 John Denver CDs on my iRiver. My 2 favorite are John Denver Greatest Hits vol 2 and 3 (never heard 1). My dad starts listening to him at the beginning of autumn, so I associate John Denver with autumn and coldish weather. =) Driving out to Denver last year, I think my friend and I listened to all my John Denver CDs plus more -- it is a long drive.

Grrrr. I thought I had at LEAST 10% more on that path exam. Right before I hit submit, I had a range in mind, and then I was definitely below that range. Time to contest...

I'm just going to sit back and watch the drama. It could have been a better exam, but it wasn't awful. The forced, tired smiles on the faces of the people coming out of the first session were about right.

Why will there be drama?

Why will there be drama?

Question-challenging drama. There is always question-challenging drama. Will they dispute questions I got wrong? Will the answers be changed? Will MY score go up? Why are they wasting time disputing questions I got right?

What is the latest word on our PDAs at the end of this year?

They told us stuff when we got our pdas. what did they tell you guys? Or what's the speculation.

Oh, glad to hear that path is back to it's old self after all y'alls' first test.

All I've heard is that if we don't return the tables back to their original positions then we don't get PDAs and they will tatoo "UNPROFESSIONAL" on our arms.

Path was terrible this block. "Off-the-wall-disease B causes left nostril bleeding while OTW-disease Bbeta is caused by a DFT5gamma gene point mutation and thus is treated with Vitamin-K".

Ask Funk was a professional room set up looks like. 👍

Did they change block 2 again? Was this one cancer and heme? And did Becker lecture even though he's retired now?

We had coagulation, infectious diseases, rando genetic birth defects, nutritional pathology, transfusion medicine, and more inflammation.

sounds like a path potpurri.

Gosh, and they wonder why people hate the class so much. Did they get rid of the liason committee too?

No, they kept the liaison committee, but after a while Dr. Lorek told them she didn't want to hear about TBL anymore.

I thought Path was kind of okay. I didn't knock it out of the park or anything, and it wasn't all sunshine and puppy dogs like the last exam, but there were rather few of the nasty detailed questions and it wasn't like the Phys final or every single freakin' Biochem test, so I can't really complain. Of course, I'm still looking forward to OTHER PEOPLE doing the dirty work of getting me more points by challenging questions.

Argh, I hate it when someone is contesting the same question that I am going to contest, but they do so in a very poor way. Saying "I didn't think it was right" is going to make the question writer think that we're all idiots.

I'm on it. I don't trust other people to try to contest the questions I want, as previously mentioned.

Okay, I cited Robbins, the course handouts, and direct quotes from assorted lecturers to prove my points. The hounds have been released.

That doesn't necessarily mean they'll change answers. They're some odd ducks over there. Too much formalin me thinks.
Oh, I'm well aware of that. Mattson clued us in with his vasa recta question, that just because his notes and Guyton clearly agree with what we're saying, it doesn't mean he'll change a question.

Wait, Mattson taught some path, or am I misunderstanding this.

Nah, just renal phys. I meant that just because a question is almost certainly wrong doesn't mean we'll get it back. Sometimes it's subjective, and I can understand why they wouldn't see it our way, but that one was ridiculous.

Let's just have the Micro exam now so I don't have to study anymore.

The E. Coli lecture is horribly organized.

I'm studying quite a bit from Lance's tutor notes, just because I like the organization. I'll fill in the details by another pass through the lecture notes tomorrow, assuming I have any room in my pea brain after I memorize the toxins and antibiotics charts I made this morning, which probably aren't even complete yet.

aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, man, these next two months are gonna suck. We've got TBL next Monday, which we'll actually have to study for now, and our next path exam is not even two weeks after that, right before Thanksgiving break, and then micro is right after Thanksgiving, and then we roll into our CER/psych/ethics exams, and then full speed into the end of the semester. I'm pretty sure we don't have a semi-cumulative path exam, THANK GOD.

Hehe... that reminds me of burn-out #1 of M2 year.

As long as they haven't changed this from path, it'll just be a normal block exam.

Yeah, fall semester really got to me as well. Especially around block three.

I liked spring of M2 year much better. Even with boards looming, it wasn't that bad. The path cumulative, while it sounds daunting, isn't really worth all that much more than a regular exam (double, maybe, I can't remember exactly). So that takes a bit of the pressure off. CER lightens up quite a bit, and you can think of finals as studying for the boards, so it doesn't seem so bad.

yeah, I'm fairly confident that I'll make it through this stretch without hitting any *serious* burnout, but I'm feeling fairly wiped out at the moment. It's just annoying that we don't get really ANY break, starting three weeks ago until December 21.

Important study tip: If you have been sitting in a nerd room all day studying, and it is dark now, and you have just begun to make up a little song about the surface proteins on Neisseria gonnorhea, AND YOU WANT TO SING IT TO SEE HOW IT SOUNDS BEFORE YOU WRITE THE SECOND LINE, it is time to go home.

Good luck on micro. Know the e.coli antigens and for what the letters stand.

I spent today at the Jelly Belly distribution center and watching lots of episodes of Psych.

...and when are we going to get our effing path grades?

It was into the second week last time, so I suspect it will be the same this time. But hey, the reading assignment is shorter this time! YAYYYY!

I'm going to cover the 3 chapters before and after the assigned reading just in case.

the 634 discussion forum posts sent them for a loop, especially after someone challenged questions 1-50.

That was such a riot! It was almost as good as, "Sure, I would have picked that choice if I'd read all the answers..."

Did we get any path questions changed?

Santa's here! Changes on Questions, 3, 11, and 14. See Angel. Forums are not yet reopened to show explanations.

I have no idea if I missed those questions or not.
