MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

paintball. right up your alley, Jr. Commando.

and calling them strippers is offensive to me. we prefer "Clothing Removal Artist."
Went paintballing for my bachelor party two years ago. I wanted to make it look less than completely obvious that I was using his idea 😀

The alcohol is a given, but I want to do something else first. My wife suggested a brewery tour too, and I think that's high on the list. Comedy Sportz is also an option.

indo - you can go way out into Lake Michigan and catch some big fish.

You probably know this, but the bachelor's party should be several days before the wedding. I knew a guy once in New Orleans who threw a really good bachelor party the night before the wedding. He was the best man and all, so it was his job.

He woke up the next morning to a bright, shiny sun, on a beach somewhere, already late to the wedding. He turned his head and there was the groom, passed out next to him. They asked a passing policeman where they were, and it seems they were in Pensacola, Florida. The car turned up later in Mississippi.

The wedding took place at a later date, largely because the best man took the blame, but I don't think it was pretty.

HAHAHA! ^^

My friends in England go camping or to places kinda like the Dells.

According to my dad, my pediatrician (one of my dad's best friends in med school) was late for his wedding because he was watching George of the Jungle.

Smooth.

I recommend either the Brewery tour or a Brewers game. Start the day early tailgating with bloody marys, hit an afternoon game, later dinner and bars.

😀 Classic. Did they start in New Orleans?? Yeah, I went to a bachelor party (more like a house party in this case) the night before the wedding. The groom passed out by like 11pm, haha. He felt crappy the next day. I went out drinking like 2-3 nights before my wedding - certainly not the night before.

Because my brother is getting married in Oregon, we're definitely going to be doing this 1-2 weeks in advance. All of his friends are here, and almost none of them are going out there.

The new Palms are cool, but I like the mini-Windows PDAs a lot more. I now have a cell phone, a PDA, an iPod, and I'll be getting a pager soon. Blargh. I wish I had something like an iPhone with paging ability to condense all these devices into one.

did you get the POS Palm TX as well? or something newer? rumor is you get a lot of new programs with yours that we didn't get.

i just got my replacement PDA in the mail Monday. so happy! i think it actually WORKS!!!!

My palm pilot got stolen. Good times. If only I was getting any graduation presents, I would get a new one. Unfortunately, my family doesn't roll like that. (True story). Pocket pharmacopeia, here I come!

it's a Tungsten TX. don't know if that's the same TX as yours or not.

It comes with a leather case that some people are willing to sell. it's very exciting. right, indo?

i was excited that I could send email from my sweet pda.

If your white coat has an inside upper left pocket (not all of them do) it is very handy for the PDA but it won't fit with the leather case. I used the little hingey shield thing it came with.

Hingey shield thing FTW!

That leather case was too girly for my tastes.

I love my coach bags. And key chain. It's a purple X with a gold outline. How witty!

Someone else bought it for me. Both bags, too. Graduation presents.

If you new Palm peeps figure out the e-mail settings for our school e-mail on the Palm go ahead and post them. Prowler had helped me out with it once before, but for some reason those settings no longer work. Methinks it has something to do with them switching from an http address to https.

got this from a classmate

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the mass email. For those of you that were able to get your PDA's synced with the new software, I figured out how to get the MCW email working.

On the PDA click VersaMail. Then use the settings below:

Account name: MCW (or whatever you want)
Mail Service: Exchange ActiveSync
Username: [email protected]
Mail Server: owamail.mcw.edu

Finally, click Test Settings and, provided you have the wifi connection working, it should be successful. This functions as an IMAP server so that changes made on the PDA are reflected online (and vice versa). When you click the "Appointments" button on the bottom, it will tell you how many unread emails you have.

Also, for those of you that have Gmail. I have the necessary files for a high resolution java version that is made by Google (but, unfortunately unable to be downloaded with this version of Palm PDA). The actual program works great, though. Let me know if you want to be sent that. (It is just less than 1MB.)

Remember!!

That exam was dumb. who cares if Medicaid/SCHIP is slightly more/less than the interest payments on the national debt?

But isn't it important to classify the different kinds of control of physicians as societal versus professional? Our patients SOOOO want to know!

So, I think breasts are all well and good, when they're not attached to standardized patients. I'm practicing my physical exam for the OSCE on my wife, and I'm trying to treat it like the real deal, and the twins are hard to negotiate around. It just seems awkward to percuss out the liver span when someone still has a shirt and bra on, and the PMI and mitral auscultation isn't much better.

Felt like complaining to people who would understand. I hope I have a male SP for the OSCE. I don't think I'll worry when it's a real patient who has already been examined 38 times...

When I was doing the OSCE for that, I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong with the tuning fork hearing tests...then my patient admitted she actually WAS deaf in one ear. Go me.

Well, maybe you can have her take off her shirt and it's more like a patient with her gown lifted. Since it's your wife, you can also practice different ways of asking her to move the twins or asking if you may just move that, please, to get used to it. I think it'll help.

ah, you'll get over your modesty soon enough.

and where were ya earlier on the free food thing. I had fam med classroom stuff today. Stopped at home for a grilled cheese.

FYI, normally I'm in bed by now on a monday, but it's cinco de mayo.

I think I had her before. There probably aren't a lot of SPs with no hearing in one ear. was it her right? and she's in her 40s?

Sorry, but SHIPAA (Standardized Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) prevents me from saying any more.

Hey, I have no trouble touching or looking at breasts, believe me, but I'm wary of giving the wrong impression or simply touching more than I need to.

Eh. If patients only knew just how asexual you become when you put on the short white shackle (oops...I mean coat) they wouldn't worry at all about us touching them.

There was a video on YouTube last year (I looked just now and couldn't find it), in which they "Punk'd" a med student who did an exam on a female patient his age, and they were claiming he'd overstepped his bounds. The punchline for me was when his attending, who was in on the joke, asked him if his "exam included feeling for the PMI on both sides." This kid was freaking out, but it was pretty funny to watch.

137 path lectures

107 pharm lectures

I think. Woo hoo.

You're going to study the path lectures? You might just bust through rapid review path a time or two and move on with your life...haha, right.

On that note...there HAS to be a better way to learn antimicrobials.

bachelor party story from my mom:

Her friends or my dad's friends or someone put on a bachelor party for a guy. They took him out and got him all drunk and all that crap. But, they took him to the airport and then put him on a flight to Los Angeles. He woke up in LA then barely made it back for the wedding.

My brain hurts. And I still have to cram a lot more in. And then pick up the stuff that falls out the other ear and stuff it back in. Over and over and over.

Still beats workin'.
