In other news, you, Doctor Funk, and I will all be at the Saturday clinic tomorrow. I think we should work together to form an unholy triumverate and rule the clinic with an iron fist.

make sure the ones with good veins get ordered a LOT of labs. i love popping those big'uns.

and watch out...because Splat in lab = nonprofessional attire.

I remember you said that you were going to play "CSI Dress-up" tomorrow...do you think it would be unprofessional of me to bring a patient in and announce "I've got another cold one for ya" when I walk into the lab?

i don't see a problem. I'll bring in some loud techno music to blast while I work...keep the lights way down, and we'll occasionally flash some scenes of Las Vegas to make it official.

I sooooo want to interview patients tomorrow using my David Caruso (Horatio on CSI Miami) voice:

Deadpan delivery: "So. I understand you are here to have some STD tests run. First, I must ask you, do you have sex with men, women, or *long pause for dramatic effect and I slowly remove my sunglasses* BOTH?

horatio%20caine%202-779557.jpg

Funk, make sure you ask them their chief complaint in a super-accusatory tone. Also, overact every single line you say.

Tracks are up, although Oasis seems to be getting hammered about now. F14 for me. I appear to be one of the lucky ones that got their first choice. Anyone else here on that track? 😀

Just checked out the pdf with lottery results. Looks like Splat and I just may be spending some extra time together next year. How precious. 😉

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First choice winner here!!!!! E12.

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

And I'm liking what I see for the other people on my track. I don't think there's anyone I'll need to bitchslap.

A02 for me. My 6th choice. I guess I'm not overly disappointed, but not elated by any means. It would have been nice to get in my top 5. Anyway, starting out on Psych will be a nice transition into the rigors of 3rd year, I think. If there were an emoticon for indifference with a slight twinge of dissatisfaction, I'd use it right now.

Back to watching "Beerfest." I'm pleasantly surprised by how funny it is... not a bad effort by the Broken Lizard gang. Not quite as good as Super Troopers, but far and away better than Club Dread.

And I'm liking what I see for the other people on my track. I don't think there's anyone I'll need to bitchslap.

How do you find that out? I can't figure it out, and Oasis is loading so slowly it's killing me every time I click a button.

Edit: Nevermind, I think I figured it out.

I gotta say, the whole "Gimlet" thing is throwing me for a loop.

Sorry about the 6th choice. Hey, at least no one got their 10th choice this year.

Am I the only one that isn't having any problems with oasis loading slowly? Mine came right up.

Well, I better take the dog out to potty. I made her wait til I could check the results.

I think there's only one person on my track that I've found annoying so far. Nobody I would consider a gunner-type as far as I know, which is awesome.

Don't get me wrong though...I'll probably still bitchslap Splat.

So since I've got June as my elective month, I've gotta figure out if I wanna do an elective, or start a sub-I early. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I would do the latter for sure. Can you do an Ortho Sub-I? That would be golden.

I have no problems with anyone on my track, although there is one guy who I've gotten an impression from that he doesn't like me. There's a couple of gunners to look out for on similar tracks that share a good chunk of the year with my track, though.

Who doesn't like you? Just point him out, and I'll set him straight.

Since I like Ortho, and I think I like Anesthesiology, I'm gonna probably do an elective in one and a sub-I in the other. Either one would rock. I think 3rd year will help me decide that... I might go through CPR and find out I don't like it. I like the pain management stuff too, so I was looking at that 4th year elective.

I also want to take a path elective somewhere in there too.

And some aways...

Ah, decisions, decisions. But that's for another day.

I don't think he actually dislikes me, I just think he gives off that vibe to a lot of people who don't know him well. I've heard other people mention it, too.

I can't believe you actually want to do a path elective! 😱

Who will be the first to post an acceptance from 1-19...

(I hope its me)

Man I'm tired. I knew staying up until 1 last night drinking beer, and then waking up today at 6am to sit around and do nothing aside from listening to pharm lectures in my jammy pants was a bad idea.

Now I have to try to stay awake while attending a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performance tonight. Do you think it would be unprofessional of me to fall asleep and drool on the person sitting next to me?

we're gonna rock it buddy. you are the only one that will keep me sane. do NOT switch.

I got E13 (5th choice I think). Elective in February this had better mean I get the ortho elective.

You can do an ortho sub-I. I plan on doing that in July most likely after I"m done with neuro.

My CER preceptor is a neurologist. UGH!

What's nice for you is that during February yours is the only track with an elective. Hopefully that will increase your chance of getting the Ortho elective.

How many Ortho Sub-I spots are there? I know for Anesthesiology it's only 2 per month. I'm sure they're hard to get in the beginning of 4th year, because everyone wants to have letters from those Sub-I's in time for residency applications. That could be a benefit for April that she has an elective month in June to do hers.

had some nice bosoms in it.....😛

I highly suggest Beerfest if that was what you liked about Club Dread. There were at least 6 pairs of completely gratuitous bosoms within the first 10 minutes of the movie.

I was looking at the 4th year stuff earlier. According to Oasis, there are 2 anesthesia sub-I spots in August and September ONLY!!! The rest of the year, it's just 1.

Ortho is better. They take 4/month at Froedtert, 2/month at the VA, and 2/month at Children's.

I believe to do a sub-I in June, I have to call the department to arrange it.

I was looking at MN's electives earlier too (for aways). Their electives are all over the place. 3 weeeks, 6 weeks, just odd scheduling. And the only stuff they had in anesthesia was a 3-6 week general rotation, a 3-week "advanced" rotation, and a research rotation. That's it.

My preceptor is internal medicine. Bleh. So when do we need to do anything with this if you're in the B house (i.e. H&P in March)? I'm a bit confused.

I was wondering why they were talking about gimlet, but I don't even look at your name, I just see your av. 😛

Ashers, before you head off to a career in ortho, lemme ask you a question. What cordless drill/screwdriver do you recommend?

I have a Porter-Cable and like it just fine. Granted I'm not going into ortho, but I do like screwing things. DeWalt is another good brand.

My Craftsman cordless drill has sucked the life completely out of its batteries (it's 6 years old, though). I can't screw for more than about 3 minutes without it running out of energy. Luckily I have a wife who works with masons, so anytime I need a drill she brings home their industrial-strength Bosch equipment for me.

I like my Craftsman drill. I haven't needed to charge it yet, and I've had it for 2 years. I've really only used it to put together my dvd rack and hang curtains.

I really don't know why I'm awake right now, I wanted to sleep in.

I just got a new 12V cordless Skil for christmas. Haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, so I can't comment on its quality. I used to work at Home Depot, and I'd say if you're looking for a plain-old, 'round the house drill, the most popular was probably Ryobi. However, I was just a cashier, noticing what people were buying, not working in the hardware department.

Ashleigh, how do you just wake up at 7am. That blows my mind. My goal was to be up by 10 or 11 today. My brother called at 10:30. I was so tired, went back to bed, and just woke up again at 1:15. Talk about wasting half the day.

Cuz I had been getting up at like 6 before exams to get to school and study when the library opened, so I guess getting up at 7 was sleeping in. =(

So I just heard it was a bad thing to miss CER yesterday since they don't have lecture notes online for the concept map.

That sucks. What is a concept map? It reminds me of middle school english class when we had to brainstorm and make "webs."

That's what it sounds like when it was described to me. Oh, from what i just heard while trying to listen to path, the 1pm lecture isn't Jordi Rowe; it's the CER dude.

The drill I have is on sale right now. 14.4V Craftsman die hard, has an LED on it.

Did you see the right-angle drill underneath it? That's pretty sweet for tight corners. I don't have a cordless, but I borrowed one when I went home to help my folks after the hurricane. Nice, fat Ryobi with two sets of batteries and the usual 12-step clutch and keyless chuck that everybody takes for granted unless they have an old Black and Decker with a cord like mine. Last time I went home, my nephew helped my parents pick out a nice cordless for themselves. Can't remember the brand name. I switched out a LOT of light switches and outlets with it (the 20-step clutch was awesome for tightening wire-holding screws) and I miss the drill dreadfully. But I kind of like not really needing a drill very often. I hung curtains last month, and that was it.

Still, good power tools rock!

I don't even own a power drill (although I'm sure my wife has one around somewhere).

I plan on making piles of money so I can pay people to drill things for me.

Pratik, I'm going to need more of a commitment from you on this thread.

After the phany pack joke, i am afraid i cant commit to you anymore. I have been crying myself to sleep for days.

You've got one of those old electric drills with the L shaped chuck key? I have one of those too.

How is studying going?

It's kind of getting there now. I lost a few hours last night to a dance performance (and we sucked), and I also did a lot of SLEEPING*, but it's kind of starting to come together. Are you going to time me again tomorrow? 😉

*I promised myself that this semester I would eat right, exercise, and get more sleep. Not "enough" sleep, since I'm not very good at sleeping. But definitely MORE. I figure I'll get a lot more out of med school if I'm actually awake during lecture.

How's it going for you?

It is going...I guess. It has to be going better than it did during biochem last term.

You don't have to be awake during lecture. You just have to be awake when you listen to the lecture at home on your computer!
I don't listen to the lectures I skip. I feel like it's a huge waste of time I could be spending studying 😛

UGH. Hillard just drilled us with her synaptic transmission questions. I'm just shooting for a PASS in neuro.

Were those from her lectures on the various neurotransmitters? I remember getting creamed on those questions. I think 90% of my missed questions on that exam came from her.

She's only marginally better when you encounter her in pharm next year.
