I just got back my 9/3 mcat score and got a 32P. My overall gpa now is 2.95. When you take into account retake classes as is and not averaging them my D.O application gpa is 3.15. I got about 150 hours of volunteering at a hospital and some work experience at a Pharmacy. Thats about it. Would you say that the best thing i could do now is apply for D.O school only. Should i wait till june and apply to both MD and DO by which time i could get my GPA above 3.0? Should i go for DO now? How good of a chance would i have in getting into DO now or MD later? THanks alot🙂

GPA is low-acceptable to marginal. MCAT score decent. Now is late in this app season (by this time my app cycle some years back, my friends and I who applied in June already got acceptances, just to give you an idea). So if I were you and I could afford the time, I would def wait until my GPA is 3.0+ and so I could apply in June.

No idea on your chances of DO. I only applied to MD.

For MD, your stats not impossible, but you're fighting a huge uphill battle. Maybe if you're really accomplished in something (sport, art, research, writing, etc, on an international level) that would help some -- but still you're limited by your GPA.

I've heard of a friend of a friend who didn't get accepted on a 3.5 and 36. On the other hand, my friend, applied late in cycle ~August?, and got accepted off the wait-list to a top-ranked MD school -- but friend had a PhD and ~3.8 and 35+ and a very well-spoken person.

Just to give you an idea. Think carefully about how you spend your time and money.

You have a solid chance with DO and a very low chance getting into an MD school unless you have some other points in your favor in your application.

Very low chance of getting into an MD, without doing 2 years of post bacc classes. Even the DO schools are going to look at you through a skeptical lens. 2.95/32 shows that you are very lazy. You'll have to do something to prove them otherwise.

You will be a shoe in for DO schools with 3.15 GPA and 32P MCAT if you apply next cycle. As for MD, since you cGPA is 2.95<3.00, there are schools that will reject based on automatic cutoff; and even if some dont, you will have an uphill battle with that 2.95 GPA.
