I was just informed by the Mass medical board that all licensed MDs in the state will now have to perform a few hrs a year of CME focused on MD burnout.

the state was kind enough to send a few links of various sponsors of CMEs that fulfill the requirement. they are billed as free but when you dig a little deeper you see it is free to members, so I can join a society I would never otherwise join to get them for free or shell ~ 50 bucks / hr of CME.

great so a few more CME requirements (like SAMs) that I cant getfrom grand rounds or tumor boards & have to acquire more login ID/PW combinations and pay for.

Wow - my stress levels are plummeting !!

tempted to sign up for yoga classes with meditation and check the box saying I performed CMEs for MD burnout.

Had to gripe about this one a bit but does any one know of truly free online CMEs for burnout.

If anything would burn me out more, its doing more damn CME's for damn things like burnout. These administrators are a bunch of wanna-be nannies! Sick!!

Any chance you have a link to the new requirements? I can't find it under the MA BORIM guidelines after a quick search. I also just re-upped my license and did not have to do any burnout CME's.

I got notice via email - just a few days ago.
cant find it either on the website.

I did look closer at email, the state is now allowing burnout CMEs tocount as risk management which is required at 10 / yr but NOT requiring them...so I bitched a little too soon. Anyhow I’ll just keep doing free risk management CMEs via GRs and other committees that qualify.

Right after you responded I literally got an email saying burnout CMEs now count towards Risk Management CME requirements, so the news must be making the local rounds via email.

Craziness. Then wait until you get audited and you have to prove that your particular CME choice was an approved choice. I think in our state we have three extra requirements - Opiates, ethics, and human trafficking maybe? Some are one-time things, others are every cycle. Interestingly, if you do not prescribe medication you cannot get out of the opiate requirement.

My main hospital required DEA certificates for us.

This must be the sickest joke at the expense of MA physicians. What's next? They are going to mandate CMEs focused on MD's financial well-being? Wishful thinking!
