MD help needed for Hurricane relief efforts please read.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Here's the LSU hotline (225) 763-5740.

It took a while for me to get through, but they declined on an extra anesthesiologist.

I can't stop thinking about this.

I have never felt so helpless or angry about such a tragic event. I've already given money to the red cross and will likely give more. Money just seems so pathetic though when I feel there is so much more I should do...

However, I also feel as if no one is talking about this. A post here, a post there, occasionally someone I'll meet someone in the halls at work who will mention something but otherwise nothing.

Does anyone else feel like this? Like some god-awfully horrendous event happened, that so many people are still dying and living in "hell" (unprotected from its thuggish denizens) and no one really cares? Does anyone else feel outraged that a country that can mobilize thousands and send them overseas at a moments notice can't seem to protect or help its own citizens?

Please someone report something good.. tell me some wonderful story about how things worked out for someone...Please say how somewhere food, water, and shelter were provided promptly and safely...

I really need to hear it.

just remember what makes a good news story. here, i found a good one from CNN

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Many people are doing good deeds. Yesterday, when I was out on I-10, watching that horrible flooding and the people trapped in their houses, there was one family who wouldn't evacuate until the elderly woman who lived next door was taken out. And they inflated an air mattress and put her on that to try to keep her afloat. I saw people who were disabled today being hauled through the streets by other younger, healthier people.

Great post. I wish there were more we can do. I know my med school opened up their doors to med students from the Gulf Coast area and are taking them in to join our class, etc.

But...in the midst of what has been said so far I have to say this. I find it disgusting how soo many people are w/o food, water, etc and then there are those LOOTING. I mean fine....MAYBE I can understand looting a grocery store to get food for ur baby, wife, whatever. But what in God's name is the reason to loot a walmart and swipe a TV ...there's no electricity. Furthemore, shooting at helicopters that are trying to help! i mean i totally udnrestand that there is despair and EVERYONE wnts to be evacuated, but the anarchy that has resulted is just amazing and disgusting. It just goes to show how human beings can be. Instead of banding together and helping each other, shooting and looting are by no means a justified means to a rightful end.

I just got in touch with LSU and the relief center. I called the same number that Military posted 225-762-5740. They are taking info from the volunteers while they assess their needs. They will contact you if they need your expertise. Please call if you have the availability. I am from La. born in N.O. and I cannot get in touch with any of my friends or family to date. I am sure my family in Lafayette is safe but can't get in touch with them. Friends in N.O. are hopefully safe also.

Thinkfast, don't get down on the human race. That goes for all of you out there that are depressed and worried. The media has shown what they needed to show to get the help that was needed to the refuges. We will recover and I feel that for every horror story there will be more than one story of extraordinary sacrifices from the people around the disaster. Keep the Faith.

I concur. I am APPALLED. well at least help is starting to trickle in. Oh and the Red Cross said it had millions of dollars in Katrina donations, but where are the results??? What are they doing with this money? I definitely don't see millions of dollars worth of help going to NOLA yet.
