Hi all,

I have received one MD interview, a handful of rejections but the majority of my applications are still out there. At this stage, does this mean they are not yet ready to reject me outright or are they going to but at a certain date?

Cheers!

Most interviews have already been handed out, but there's still plenty of time for anything to happen. Expect rejections, but don't be too surprised if you happen to get IIs between now and March.
March is when most schools really start wrapping up, is that right? Could there be II going into May or June as people decline offers?

I would think they would just take people off the waitlist at that point, but perhaps someone with more intricate knowledge could add their opinion. That being said there is a still some time with lots of now med students who claim that they got their only interviews during january or february and were ultimately admitted. So keep up the good fight, but also keep an eye for app improvement and plan B.

Edit: totally did not see your status, were you accepted to a DO school that you are asking , or do you have your heart set on a different MD school?

According AAMC traffic rules, by March 15th, schools need to have sent out the number of acceptances at least equal to their number of first year seats. Most schools will send out more based upon the typical number of turned downs they get in reply. By April 15th most schools will have the vast majority of acceptances and WL notices sent to students. The waitlist cascade begins about April 1st, is most active in May and June, and then slows to nearly nothing by end of June. After that, there is some drips of movement up until orientation starts.
Many thanks for all of the details

As @libertyyne said, most acceptances that roll in after March are taken from the waitlist. I've never heard of interviews being conducted after early April.

That is school dependent and not necessarily true for many. I believe OP is a NY resident? But off the top of my head, SUNY Downstate, Buffalo, and NYMC all have their last interview dates after April 20th. I attended an interview April 13th and the dean said we weren't even the last group. I had a friend get an II from Albany in March to interview mid-April. Got a long long way to go.

That being said, just because II's will keep coming doesn't mean chances of acceptance are equal although some schools will swear that interviewing in April has the same chance of acceptance as interviewing in September. Going to call BS on that, but a good amount of people are directly accepted without being waitlisted.

My own guess: if you've had one interview up until now, you have a 50-50 chance of getting one more before the cycle is over. Most schools will not send "rejection" letters until Spring, if ever. Some will never communicate. 🙁
Would you expect people with multiple interviews to receive multiple more by the end of the cycle, or is it not linear?

I should add that I've been lucky to have many DO interview offers and I've been accepted to all of the programs that I chose to interview at. I am indeed a New York resident and my MD interview next week is that a dream school SUNY. Really hoping it goes well but it's nice to have DO options.

One of the SUNYs rejected me (Stony Brook) but my applications to downstate and Buffalo remain active as far as I know.

I would say no; the multiple interviewees are likely the very well qualified candidates who get looked at early in the cycle and thus get invited early. That presumes they are very well qualified tend apply early

The data doesn't break down time of receiving II though. You could receive all four in August or you could receive 2 in Sept and 2 In March.
