MD/journalism?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UNC has a master program in medical journalism, except it can only be completed full time (I think it takes 2 years). And of course UNC is very well known for their journalism programs.

Schools likely have a certificate program in journalism that would be easier to complete than a full master degree too. I'm not aware of any formal combined programs other than something you'd have to hodgepodge together yourself. Sounds interesting though...maybe others know more.

The other thing to do if you don't find a program that suits your needs is join American Medical Writers Association, or you can check out the North American Association of Medical Education and Communication Companies, Inc., (NAAMECC) website to see a list of companies that hire physicians for various work. Just something to keep in mind once you finish med school. As for the AMWA, they have student members that can also contribute to various publications while a student in med school.

Are there any programs out there that would allow a joint MD/Masters in Journalism. I'm considering defecting from MD/PhD to MD/journalism...any ideas?

This is a good degree combination to have. I know there are companies that will hire with just having an MD.

An MD degree is very powerful.

Sorry to bump this old thread but I have the same question as the op.

Even if the school doesn't have a formal MD/journalism degree, which ones tend to be flexible in allowing students to take classes outside the med school?
