I am deciding between two medical schools, both of which have similar reputations and resources. One school has a very highly ranked MPH program, the other has an MPH program with not as strong as a reputation, but it can be done in 4 years. I am thinking that maybe this can help be a dealbreaker in deciding what school to go to.
I am very passionate about public health and am interested in actually using the MPH in my career, whether that be for research, policy, or program design. My thoughts are that the school with the more renowned MPH program would be better for my goals and I would receive a stronger foundation in certain skills and knowledge by taking the time to dedicate a year to the degree. I imagine that the connections would also be better. However, the thought of graduating in 4 years with both degrees is really enticing—and if I have the MD, does the strength of the MPH name really matter as much for my future goals? Or should I be more concerned about what I would lose by cramming the MPH in alongside the MD curriculum?
If anyone has experience with this or thoughts on this, I would love to hear! Thanks!
