Can it be done? Any insight is appreciated.

Any specific insight to UVA would be great.

O, and another question: how the hell does Hopkins have an amazing MPH program but in the MSAR it says "MD/MPH: No" ??? not that it matters too much w/o any interview invites, but hope springs eternal.

Here's a better source of info on MD/MPH (it's also from AAMC so I don't know why in contradicts the MSAR 😕)

http://www.aamc.org/meded/mdmph/start.htm

According to this list, Hopkins does have a 5 year MD/MPH option (basically taking a year out to do public health school).

You just have to go to a school that offers a 4 yr program (Northwestern, Tulane, SUNY Downstate to name a few...) Sorry no insight on UVA

UVA is a 5 year program. It has the format of four years of med school interspersed with a year off to complete the MPH.

I've looked into it myself. Most MD/MPH programs are 5-year programs (4 years for MD + 1 year for MPH). But I think Duke has one of the best options out there since it has a unique third-year approach, where you can take time off to do research, a dual degree, or study abroad.
