What is the benefit of MD/MPH? What more can you do with both than just an MD? That is, excluding teaching as a professor at a university.

Government/public jobs, work for non-profits specializing in global health/health policy, administrative jobs.

I'm guessing an MPH isn't necessary for most of these jobs. I think it's one of those things you do as a medical student if you want to learn more about a subject, not for the credentials. But I'm not all that sure.

Many do it for the additional skill set in epidemiology/biostatistics or in community-based service delivery, grantsmanship and program evaluation. It is complementary with medicine; one focuses on populations and the other on individuals. The list of schools offering MD-MPH grows every year so it seems that some medical schools see it as part of their mission:

There are many other fellowship programs that require or strongly encourage fellows to earn an MPH during the fellowship. I know of family planning fellows, also maternal-fetal medicine, general medicine, general pediatrics, and even surgical subspecialtists who earn the MPH during or after fellowship.
