MD/PhD interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Today I got an invite for an interview at Pitt without sending in the secondary and other stuff. I dont have a super high MCAT so I'm a little surprised. I'm applying to their MD/PhD program and from the letter I got it sounds like they are willing to arrange both sets of interviews at the same time.

there u go baylor and all that worrying for nothin' 😀

good luck bro

Just keeping this thread alive...

I think a lot of MD/PhD programs have all started interviewing now. I got notices from the following schools very recently:

University of Michigan
University of Virginia
Washington University St. Louis

In addition to the programs I've already heard from:

Johns Hopkins University
University of Pittsburgh

Has anybody gotten the MD/PhD application for Ohio State? I emailed them awhile back and they said that the MD/PhD program was in the process of sending out applications now. But I havent received one yet.

Also, does anybody know the status or have interviews at the following MD/PhD programs:

University of North Carolina
Medical College of Georgia
University of Washington
Harvard University

Hey everyone,

Special congrats to baylor21 on all those interviews! Wow!

Now, speaking of baylor21, I just got a MSTP invite for . . .Baylor!

It's in about two weeks. I am a bit nervous. Baylor21, now that you are an old pro, any special advice?

Alright gang, good luck! 🙂

I'm actually not a veteran yet.

My MD/PhD interview dates are:

Pitt: 10/1-10/2
Johns Hopkins: 10/11-10/12
Washington Univ: 10/18-10/19
UVA: 11/1-11/2
Michigan: 11/15-11/16

I think the key thing is to know your research inside and out. They will give you faculty interviews with people likely to at least know something about your research area, and they want to see just how deeply you can delve into the topic.

I didnt apply to Baylor MD/PhD, I only applied to their MD program and havent heard anything from them.

Its a top notch school though. Good luck.

Baylor21: For University of Michigan, how long after you turned in the secondary did you get the interview, and did you also send in that wierd little one page app to the Rackham school? I've emailed the people in the MSTP office, but have only been confused, and their website is pretty terrible. Thanks for any help.

I got an email offering an interview about 4 weeks after my file was complete.

I did send in the Rackham graduate application to the MSTP program.

I also took the GRE because I'm applying to their bioengineering program (its not required for all the graduate programs, only certain ones). So I had to have the official score report sent to them as well.

Thanks Baylor21,

My application has only been complete for about a week...so I guess I have time to wait. I'm going to send in that Rackham thing on Monday...otherwise I'll just forget. I took the Biochemistry and Molecular biology GRE as well...but I haven't had the scores sent. I'm not applying to the bioengineering program, so I don't know if it's important.

Thanks again, and let us know how the interview goes.

A few of the MD/PhD programs require the GRE (Michigan is one of them for my case) but most do not.

I was wondering if I should go ahead and send it to the other schools that dont require it.

My advice is, if you think you did well, you might as well send the scores to the programs. It certainly wont hurt your app, and it can definitely help.

Good luck, I'll let you know about the format of the Michigan interview after I do mine.

Just bumping this back up. I think most of the programs have started interviewing now, I just got notice from Yale.

Anybody heard anything from Northwestern, UW, UNC, or any others not already mentioned?

I got an e-mail from Northwestern, and I think it said something about the MSTP commitee meetings being around the begining of November. So, I think they'll start interviewing sometime in November. It seems that many programs interview very late. For instance, Iowa, doesn't do the MSTP interview until January, while they've already started MD interviews.

Anyhow, keep us all updated on your interviews...dying to know how it's going. You're my hero for the time being 🙂

Good luck,

Adam

I'm sorry, I got confused there. I mixed up the Northwestern and Pritzker e-mails. Pritzker isn't meeting until November. Northwestern sent me response to my inquiry saying that they will be reviewing over the next few weeks and I should be hearing from them in that time frame.

Sorry,

Adam
