Will it not look very good if I have an MD write me a recommendation for Do school? I dont personally know any DO doctors that I can shadow. I figure it would look better to apply with a really well done letter from an MD then an average one from a DO that I do not know as well.

I wouldn't worry if you have a strong MD letter and can answer the "why DO?" question if it comes up. I've heard of others doing this without issue and being accepted. Personally its what I'm doing. I went through a fair amount of effort just to shadow a DO for two days who agreed to write me a LOR. I got sick of reminding him after almost 4 months and just asked an MD who I've known for 15 years and has been an outstanding mentor for me.

It's not a problem normally....but it can be if you live in an area that's DO-rich, like, say, the mid-west. even then, it's rarely a deal-breaker.

I didn't have a DO letter. there are only a few schools that require one. Shouldn't be much of a problem unless you have your heart set on those few schools.
