Some schools will see it as growth and figuring out how to learn and do undergrad, but some will want more evidence.

But a 3.1X is low enough that you really should do an SMP or post bacc I would think. It's not enough of an improvement to show consistent growth

Eh 68 credits at 3.89 is easily enough. At some point you really can't raise the overall GPA anymore. I agree OP should consider an SMP but, IMO, only after an application cycle.

I know MD is a reach and I intend to apply broadly to 20-25 schools as advised by @Faha and @Goro, but am I not in a good place for DO schools I am a non-trad with family so SMP or any extensive additional schooling is not really in the cards at the moment. I am hesitant to spend the money applying if DO is also a big reach.
I plan to have my primary in by mid-June and quick turnover on my secondaries hoping to be complete in late to mid-July, will this help my chances significantly?
As of the inventor, you have to have DO schools on your list.

Wayne State is a state public school that gives preference to Michigan residents. They interview 22% of Michigan residents vs 6% non residents. However, they have a large class and do admit more non residents than most state public schools so it may be worth applying there if they will place more emphasis on your recent science grades.

DO is 100% a wonderful outcome, my question is if I apply to 15 DO schools am I likely to get interviews. It is all just so expensive.

More likely to receive DO interviews than MD, so you should be including some schools.

Yes, very much so. If money is an issue, skop a year, work and save up some case. You do NOT want to be one of those people who apply and then don't have enough money for the travel and deposits.

That's a good point. You changed my mind.
