Hello. I've seen a few threads on here about MDs interested in pursuing OMFS without the dental background and have read about a few programs that may take applicants this way (Baylor, Michigan, Harvard, Louisville, ?). Does anyone know of any MDs who have just switched over to dental school to pursue OMFS and if so, you think one would have to go through the standard application and 4 year process??
thanks,

I'm a little confused what you're asking so I'll break it down for you. You have 2 options:

1) Apply to the select few OMFS programs that accept MD-applicants (Alabama & MGH are the only two I know of in recent history). During your 6-6.5 years you will obtain a dental degree.

2) Apply to dental school and then continue to do an OMFS residency, through acceptance into one isn't guaranteed. This would take 8 years and there is no gaurantee you will be licensed as an M.D.
