What a person with a MD can do if they don't have a specialization? I called a school for my cousin and they told me that if a bachelors degree wasn't completed and she applied to medicine school when she graduated from Med School the degree w/b a MD without specialization.... I am so confused! Can anyone explain...? Thanks

Undergraduate degree, or lack thereof, doesn't affect the one's medical degree or post-graduate training. In the US anyway.

Well, AFAIK, medical degrees in the US aren't awarded with specialization. Even if all of my 4th year electives are in, say, surgery, I'm awarded the same M.D. as someone who does all peds electives.

Maybe the school was trying to say that your cousin will only receive an M.D., not a B.S. and an M.D.??

I am confused about your meaning too.

Maybe what they meant is that if you don't complete your BS, you aren't allowed to matriculate. I know that to be the case in many schools.

Rarely schools allow students to matriculate without a bachelors. On top of that, when you graduate from medical school you simply receive an MD degree with the potential to go into any specialty.

For many specialties you will have needed to complete a sub-internship in your chosen specialty during fourth year to hope to match.

Yes sir.
