Hey All,

For the last two years I've been writing for a local paper as well as a magazine and I really enjoy it. Medicine and science are definitely my passion, but writing is fun and I'm pretty good at it.

Does anyone know if any schools have some sort of science writing or journalism program in conjunction with the normal medical route? I'm interested in the Duke program as it might give me the freedom to explore this side of things, but they seem much more suited for science based research rather than what I'm looking for.

Ideally I'd like to practice medicine full time, but write science/health/medicine newspaper articles on the side every few weeks.

Absolutely no need for that if you've already got good clips... but I do know NYU has a science writing MA or something like that.

hi,
I go to Hopkins and I know we have one of the best writing programs in the country. If you come here for med school you could get an MFA in the writing seminars dept.

I personally think any writing or journalism degrees are useless -- unless you want to get in on the business side of editing and publishing. Otherwise, in order to be a good writer, you just need to read a bunch and write a bunch more.
