mdapplicants.com teaser

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Aren't pictures/names kind of against the whole (perceived) anonymity thing?

I don't really like the photo thing at all, sorry.

I do have a suggestion though. I think you should add what type of degree (B.A./B.S) the applicant obtained.

am i going to get hated on if i say i'm not in love with it? 😳

it is certainly snazzy, and i appreciate all the hard work you're doing on it, but... i already feel violated by facebook and its status updates! not mdapps too! anyway, i'm sure it will be great.

I just want better search functions. 🙂

make a facebook app too.

What sort of search functions?

And, target release date is end-of-June; this is just the first visual mock-up for the non-member home page.

Just the ability to search for more combinations of things, like people accepted to a school within a certain range of dates. Or searching for people who were rejected from a school after or before interviewing.

I agree, some search function additions that I would like are:

The ability to search by Gender
The ability to search for more than one race, school, medical school, etc at once.
The ability to search for rejections, both pre-interview and post interview separately or together.
The ability to search for completes/post-secondaries.
A hold function and the ability to search for it.
An ability to search for people who got accepted from waitlist or were rejected from waitlist.

It's been a while since I saw a Totoro! 😀

might be cool to have a "watch list"...

this would be a list of self selected profiles that you would be interested in monitoring throughout the course of the application cycle. it could help you streamline the process of answering, "hmm, i wonder how profile 123, 456, 789 are doing now that it is february... have those guys gotten in anywhere?"

perhaps you could even incorporate a "facebook mini-feed-esque" type of thing too, which would give you information specifically about those on your "watch list"

Way ahead of you. 😉

As for the very detailed search options mentioned above, I can try to see if I can lay out a logical advanced search that lets you do some of those searches - however, you're talking about some very complicated search form fields that might be difficult to make user-friendly.

I do like the sound of that, but I just wanted to re-iterate concerns of this somehow morphing into a social application. I really like the implied anonymity of it as a data source.

Edit: Also, you are awesome for continuing to work on this.

The other thing I'd really like to know/search is (and this may be too invasive, but could be optional) of those accepted, who actually attended. That is, are those 38 MCATers accepted to MCW actually attending or did they choose to attend Harvard?

cool.... out of curiosity, does mdapplicants generate some decent pocket change? (revenue from advertisements and such)

cus i'd definitely like to see you get reimbursed somehow for all the work you've put into this.

Let's just say it's definitely a net negative at this point from reinvesting in the redesign. But, the goal is to essentially break-even and reinvest in improvements.

Yes, it is morphing into one of those collaborative social apps - the rudimentary features on the current site are already being abused in ways this site will explicityly support. It will do a better job of handling anonymity than the current site, and a better job of handling folks with multiple applications or people who are applying in future cycles. It will also have some ways for me to experiment with automatically generating user-specific content "of interest". It'll be a fun new toy for me, too. 😉
