Hi everyone,

I'm a potential DO student for the class of 2008, but I'm curious about allopathic students that have taken time off to pursue osteopathic studies. Similar to many of the postings I've read, a combination of osteopathic and allopathic training could be the best of both worlds. While I also think there is a place for two different approaches to medicine, why not have the opportunity to learn OMM as an MD? The type of training I'm thinking about is something like a 10month full time osteopathic principles and methods course between your 2nd and 3rd year. I'm not sure how this would work but I have heard of allopathic students trying this and wanted to get some feedback/ comments/ ideas.

The potential problems could be finding a school that would offer this and also financial issues, but hey, anything is possible if you start asking the right questions, right?

I submitted the same message to the osteopathic forum.

thanks!

Any MD student or licensed MD who wants to train in osteopathic manipulation can do so via the American Academy of Osteopathy. They have an entire training curriculum. An MD can become fully competent in all aspects of OMT, and a DO can take "refresher" courses after graduation.
