Can someone explain what does the PSf stand for? Where is this pressure: in the circulatory system at all or only in peripheral venous compartment? Can someone describe this picture: what does line of venous return mean (vena cava superior and arterior?) Thanks

I mean, why we can't just say that pressure in venous capillary end is 7 in normal human body (without cardiac arrest and measuring Psf after)??

Mean systemic filling pressure is the average pressure throughout the circulatory system. It can only be measured by stopping blood flow and allowing pressures throughout the circulatory system to equilibrate.

The importance is basically that VR is related to the difference between mean systemic filling pressure and CVP. One can increase VR (and therefore CO) by increasing PMS and/or decreasing CVP:

Hence why things like Early Goal Directed Therapy in sepsis where they told you to target a supranormal CVP were so idiotic and anti-physiologic.

If it is pressure throughout the circulatory system so CVP (pressure in Cava vein)=Pms also?!! What is the concept here??
