I'm trying to understand how hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis cause an increase in thyroid binding globulin levels, this is what I'm thinking so far but it all doesn't add up
Since T3 is partially excreted via the biliary system, destruction of bile ducts would cause backup of the hormone in the blood. TBG would have to increase in order to prevent hyperthyroidism
With hepatitis, you have decreased peripheral conversion of T4 to T3 so T4 builds up and requires an increase in TBG. But how would the TBG be synthesized if the liver is not functioning?
