Well, first you need to figure out what medications you will be putting in the tower. Second, prepare for normal resistance to change, nurses will call and say they don't have time to use the dispenser and want to know why you can't just send them up a dose. Also, plan on the dispenser running out of medicines, because some nurse will put in to take out one dose, then go ahead and take out several doses and hide them in a stash somewhere for later use. Also plan on human error while everyone is learning the system (like inventories get zeroed out because nurses input the numbers wrong.) Also plan on nurses "forgetting" to do wastage via the system like they are supposed to or worse yet, sharing each other's passwords so one nurse can do the wastage without actually having another nurse there to witness.
Biggest thing to prepare, repeated education about the importance of using the system as its designed, and why this will make everyone's job easier in the long-run. You can not go overboard on the communication, and ideally it needs to be during mandatory meetings. Just sending out an e-mail or printing off an info page for everyone will ensure that nobody knows what they are doing when the time comes for the switch over.
