I saw a thread similar to this in the premed forum, and I thought it was funny. What weird/quirky things have made you think of medical school or things you have learned in medical school?

I'll start. Playing Yahtzee for fun and my final score was 261. Instantly thought of dream step 1 score.

yeah they are usually very stupid like that.

At the beginning of med school, Anatomy was a particularly powerful force of life adjustment for me since I didn't take it undergrad. I had to start at square one; I literally knew nothing.

I started thinking, and stopping myself from describing, things in daily life in anatomical positional terms. "Lemme stop by this gas station first. It's coming up laterally as I approach this proximal streetlight."

if you think about it a gas station is just like a portal venous system.

Every time I see someone with shaky hands or wobbly handwriting I try to diagnose their degenerative neurological disorder.

two way street with telephone lines = neurovascular bundle

I find myself thinking about the mechanism of action during all 97372 pharmaceutical commercials I see on tv each day

This for sure! Without even realizing it I use terms like proximal and distal to describe where something is in the fridge...admittedly using some of these terms definitely makes describing positions of things in daily life a lot easier. 😛

I took a page out of Ark's book and now approach every situation asking myself "how can I palpate their S5 dermatome?"

I can somewhat intelligently refute blog-mom-science that is prevalent in my home and in our circle. So I do, constantly, because I sorta know some stuff, sciency human body type stuff.

In a similar vein, I take every opportunity to facebook argue with vaccine deniers.

At home, my mind often wanders to imagining/visualizing anatomic structures and landmarks on my wife's body. Pubic symphysis is my fave.

It takes all my will power to forget female reproductive anatomy/phys so that I can still find lady parts attractive.

The Rohen's dissections still give me nightmares though..

I always wonder if there's something not wired right in my brain, or if I'm just really good at compartmentalizing, but somehow I didn't feel too bothered by filleting and castrating my cadaver, or just yesterday skinning the face. There is always the realization in the back of my mind that cutting up a human being (even if they're dead) and turning them into a science project is a little ****ed up, though.

We doing this? 2 threads about personal sex lives? 😉

She doesn't call me the fornix tickler for nothing:cigar:

not really, tho

Every time a large group of people funnels though a door or onto a narrow escalator or something like that, I always envision blood cells rushing around before filing into capillaries. And if there's a moment where several people try to get through at once, with a subsequent clog of people, I always think, that's what an infarct looks like...
