Med School Summers / Deferment

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, I searched to no avail.

A Few Questions,

One How long are Medical School Summers ?
And Two, If someone were in the National Guard and Got Deployed While in Medical School ( Under a Non-Medical Assignment ) Would it be Legal for the Student to be Not Allowed A Deferment, I know there is the Law about Employment but this is education.

Maybe Question Two is best Suited for the Military Medicine Board . . . .

EDIT - Found Question one

In medical school, the summer after first year tends to be reasonably long (about 3 months at most places). In the second year summer, you aren't really "off" because most people spend most of that summer spending long days studying for Step 1 of the boards. You generally won't have more than a week between third and fourth year at most places. As for question #2, I'm pretty sure you can get a deferrment for mandatory military service during US med school.
