Hey,

Gotta a subjective question for you guys. After a job interview, it's typically easy to tell whether or not you got the job...I find that the end of good job interviews, the interviewer starts discussing topics such as "when can you start?" and "we'll give you a call next week..."
Do people find that med school interviews are similar in terms of predictability?
I interviewed at PSU last month and I'm not sure if it went well...It seemed like both interviews went well, but neither interviewer gave me feedback at the end of the interview....For a job interview, that's usually a bad sign...

What do you all think? How do you find that job and med school interviews differ?

Other than "I hope you get in here" or "Good luck with your medical school applications" I also haven't received any feedback from my interviewers. I don't know from personal experience, but I constantly hear stories that people think they had the worst interview and then get in, or think they are definately going to get in after the interview, but get rejected. I know there are threads about this.

I have heard of several instances of interviewers saying "I am going to reccommend to the committee that you be admitted." It very much depends on the specific interviewer and their personality. If they wern't especially warm, don't jump to conclusions because they may have been warmer to you than other interviewees, it's all relative. In the same way, an interviewer that seems very interested in a particular applicant, may be very interested in all aplicants. You never know.

One reason medical school interviewers may not give that much feedback as to our chances of us getting in to the particular school, but employers do, is that often the decision to hire is up to the employer interviewing, where as the decision to admit is up to the adcom, rather than just the interviewer alone. And especially if the interviewer is "blind" (hasn't seen your file), you might have had an excellent interview and they think you should come to the school, but for all they know, you could have poor ECs, GPA and MCAT.

This is just my impression, hope it helps

Yep, if the interviewer hasn't seen your stats, then he or she is not likely to really have any say at the end of your interview about whether you got in or not. Like others have posted before, even if the interviewer said "you did great!" that's all you should take from it: that you did great in the interview. Believing in such end-interview phrases to the point of convincing yourself of an acceptance has led many a med student down the path of disappointment. (man that was a really badly worded sentence...I tried to be poetic or something).

Thanks!

I was beginning to think I was the only one who wasn't getting a post-interview hug.
