Anyone else out there have one of those applications that med schools seem to just want to keep mulling over? Out of 15 schools I've gotten one interview invite and one rejection. (and I'm an April MCATer) Everywhere else is still processing my application. I'm planning on sending letters of update/interest to the schools I haven't heard from, but I don't know if this will really help push me into the interview category. Any better ideas on what to do other than just sit back and wait to hear from them? 😛

send them candy

Yea, almost EVERY school has put me in the POSSIBLE interview pool...that means they're not ready to give me an interview..but if room opens and they want to interview more, they'll consider me. It's better than being flat out rejected...but i kinda have a feeling i will be later.

I am an august mcater and got rej from 2 schools and interview from one. The rest I contacted today and they all said "your file was completed on ....... blah blah blah, and the committee is still reviewing your file" some schools did assure me that they are still sending out new interview invites though so that was moderately encouraging. Hopefully I will get some good news before christmas. good luck

I feel the same way...15 schools, 1 invite and 1 rejection, and the rest just say "my file is complete and under review" when I try to check on the status. Obviously I hope I get more invites soon. My stats are good (3.75/32), but my MCAT score is really unbalanced (15 VR, 8 PS, 9 BS), so that might be part of it (I did take the Aug MCAT, so that has slowed things down as well). Also, I was an English major, and I have years of paid clinical experience but almost no research or typical pre-med EC's like clubs or shadowing, so maybe that throws them off too. I think if you're not the "usual" applicant, it might make your file harder to evaluate, but hopefully we'll fit in somewhere. Everyone keeps saying it's good to be different and stand out, let's hope that's true! :luck:

Hang in there, I have a good feeling about your app. Did you by chance apply to Emory or Albany?

thanks Medikit, I hope you're right! 🙂 I didn't apply to either of those schools.

I'm in the same boat too. There are 13 schools that I'm in limbo at. Better than being rejected, but not an optimistic feeling. I'm not giving up hope though.

Yeah, I have a good feeling about your app as well. I, on the other hand, am kind of just waiting for rejections and wondering why I haven't gotten more of them. 😛 My app is lovely, quite a few publications, lots of volunteering, lots of shadowing, decent MCAT (30), but my GPA is killing me (3.2/3.0). I think my only saving grace at this point is that if you look at the difference in my scince GPA from my first two years to my last two years, there's over a 1 point difference. lol. I wish I had figured out earlier in my life that I wanted to go into medicine. Hopefully I did decently enough on the MCAT for them to see that I'm not a complete *****. Here's hoping! I'd kill for your stats. Good luck!

The pre-interview hold is a bit frustrating. It's as though they like you enough to keep you around, but not quite enough yet to see you. Ahh, the banality of being a slightly above average pre-med from a Big Ten school. Maybe we should have a thread describing ways to make oneself stand out so future applicants avoid being pigeon holed.

Haven't heard a peep from 11 schools either. Every time I email em, they say that I am under review for a possible decision. How vague is that? Oh well, i'm grateful for what i have so far, so I'll concentrate on that.
