Hey there,

I was just wondering if schools follow up on reference letters submitted to them by contacting the original Professor who wrote the letter. Reason why I'm asking is that one of my Professors is out of the country for 8 months where the only contact available is through email.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out, thanks.

Pretty rare for them to do it, but not unheard of, and Harvard seems to do it routinely, but I have never heard the same for any other school.

I would agree that it can/has happened but is probably not done routinely. Maybe you should have your letter writer note that he will be availavle by e-mail only in the letter.
