I am not a frat type, but I have heard of medical fraternities. Has anyone been in or know of anyone in one? Do these fraternities offer mentorships to incoming medical students and do study groups for medical students? Please don't make fun of my naiveness. >.<

EDIT: I meant join one in medical school to help make studying easier with groups, not to build my networking as a pre-med.

I'm sure it varies but the medical frat I was in was a complete waste of time. Doesn't add anything to your application imo.

It's not really a *fraternity* fraternity. No house, no parties, no elephant walks. It really comes to the people in it. It could be good if they are genuinely nice people and help each other out or a bunch of gunners padding their app. You really have to see for yourself.

Yeah n=1 experience here, but from what I saw those in my undergrad's medical fraternity were pretty uninformed. If you are semi-competent at networking you can find all the opportunities that one of these groups can provide.

I'm pretty good with networking. I've shadowed various physician without any prior connections, so I'm not looking to build my experiences in the clinical field anymore. I was wondering if medical fraternities make it easier to have study groups in medical school.

I'm pretty sure the big thing about these fraternities are the resources. As in upper classmen having compiled exam questions, hints, etc on successfully navigating all 4 years that's passed down year to year. No one talks about it or would be willing to admit it but this 100% happens.
