hey,
just wondering if there are any US citizens/permanent residents who have kept their health insurance independently (w/out association with their parents) while studying medicine in the UK or elsewhere.

my concern is: if i happen to suffer from a long-lasting illness/trauma that required many months in a hospital, to the point that i'd have to leave med school for a semester or two, how would i be treated? does the UK grant interntaional students free health care even in these rare situations?

what US health insurance companies are willing to insure students who are full-time enrolled abroad? i am independent and need my own health insurance - using my work's right now but that will obviously end once school ends.

why don't you buy health insurance in the UK? It might work out as expensive or slightly cheaper than trying to find US international insurance. I think in a socialized system, everyone receives free health care...but that has its drawbacks as well which I won't get into. So if there was an emergency which required long hospital stays, ultimately you would get treated...you wouldn't be left hanging. Buying your own health insurance can give you easier/faster access to hospitals and particular subspecialists or subspecialist centers.
