Anyone done one? I am doing one with an MD who also tought internal medicine. He picked me because I am very focused and he wanted to pick someone he knew he was not wasting his time on. So far it sounds gravy.

BUT - I also do 30 hours of research a week and I try to have a social life during the summer. The mentorship will be INTENSE. I don't know what exactly he will do but he said I need to show total dedication. Can anyone tell me what to expect in a mentorship? All I know is he said it was hardcore.

What exactly is a medical mentorship? Does one apply for it? and how? It sounds great, but lots of hard work. Sorry I have no answers, only questions! Sounds like a great opportunity- have a ball!

Thanks Bondgirl, I actually don't know anything about the mentorship. I will go next monday to get all the details.

I came about this mentorship by doing a lot of networking around the OU Health Science Center. I was referred to the doctor and because he saw my complete dedication to the profession he decided to become my mentor. He doesn't do it for most people because he doesn't want to waste time on students who do not have the drive to become exceptional physicians.

He seems like he knows his stuff, he had taught internal medicine for over 40 years <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> and finds most kids in America lack the respect and dedication found in the student-mentor (or guru if you will) relationship.

I really hope I can show him how dedicated I am to the profession and becomeing an excellent doctor. I figure if I can pull this mentorship off and take something valuable away from it there will be huge returns. I would imagine that a LOR from this guy would mean a lot to medical schools since he is an MD and has taught internal medicine for so long.
