I have a background in Computer Science and was interested in doing research in medical or bio informatics. Does anyone know how to go about getting involved in something like this.

Note: I've never done any research

thanks

There are a few schools with masters programs in bioinformatics. My alma mater, GWU, has a one year masters in bioinformatics through the CS dept.

yeah, i'm a biomedical informatics master's student and many schools have a bmi department nowadays. clinical informatics is probably more useful if you are going to practice medicine and have little research background because all you need is programming background. the research in bioinformatics on the other hand requires you to have an in-depth understanding of biology and general research techniques so it's a little tougher to get published in my opinion.

you might try looking in your bio dpmts for a proff who does this type of research. i found a nice proff who helped me get some pubs. i did computational stuff but not in bio. he taught me everything cause i had no background.

This sounds interesting. I wonder if I can find anything in Chicago?
