Medical school loans for dummies

So I've never taken a loan out in my life. Luckily, I've managed to pay off my undergrad and the rest of my debt as of now. Now I'm stuck with getting loans.

My current situation is as such...
Accepted to an OOS school and waitlisted for IS.
IDK how the process of loans work, can someone help shed some light on the topic? Should I apply for them now? Or wait until my IS school reaches out to me...
Also how much loans would I need? Obv OOS will be much more expensive but I was hoping for a solid guestimate. Thanks in advance

The school should have a financial aid office that can give you answers better than SDN!
