Hi there,

For residents, can they write poems as evaluations or do something more fun than the traditional "good student, did well" type of thing? Will residents get in trouble for that?

You can do whatever you want. However, keep in mind that your comment might appear on the student's MSPE, so be thoughtful about whether you would have wanted a poem in the middle of your MSPE comments.

One attending in medical school, whose first language was not English, frequently wrote evals, patient notes, and emails in a style that best resembled a haiku - just a loose series of phrases, each one on a different line. At least one of these “haikus” made it into my MSPE, and it definitely came up a couple times during interviews.
