medical student to pre-dental

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You should set up a meeting with someone in admissions at each of those schools. Try to shadow a couple of dentists so the schools know you are serious about dentistry. Also, be prepared to explain why you have decided to pursue dentistry instead of medicine.

You're making a good choice, that's for sure!!! 👍

One thing that you might do is look at the acceptance threads for those schools for the current cycle and talk to those who have been accepted to those schools. They'll be able to give you advice, info about interviews, and the dmissions faculty they met with while they were there.

Good advice. Your Gpa should put you right around the middle of the pack. You need to get some specific dental experience to throw on your resume.

And, think of word for word what youre going to put in your essay and interview when they ask why you dropped out. And hopefully your med school grades were good, dental admissions hate pre meds who switch bc of falling grades.

Good luck. Cool that youre following your gut.

Just curious and not sure if you'd be comfortable answering but how much debt did you accumulate during medical school? I can see that being an issue unfortunately since a couple of your top schools are very spendy.

Yeah lol, erikin1986

You have an expensive taste for dental schools USC > UNLV > LLU.

USC + Med school debt = you are reaching a million debt when you are done with dental school. 👍

Hello,Before this past fall semester I withdrew from medical school for various reason. After reevaluating things I have decided to change my career from medicine to dentistry. I am fond of many things that dentistry offers, such as shorter education, no residency, love for biology, life improvement for me and others, opportunity to own my own business, and so forth. My stats are 3.6 cgpa and 3.5 sgpa and will take the DAT around April or May. I have completed a post bacc program and am not planning to attend any more school until I enroll in 2013. My top choices are USC, Loma Linda, and UNLV. Does anybody know my chances for these and if institutions frown on people who take a lengthy time off from school?

Planned or under duress withdrawal?
