Does anyone know if medical students can apply for welfare? My parents income is under 60k annually, and i wont be working at all during medical school. Do you think i will qualify for welfare?

Wow. I'm nearly speechless.

If you're actually serious: Normally you borrow money and pay it back once you're a doctor.

I have no plans to go on welfare when I start medical school this year, but I honestly would say more power to anyone who manages to swing it. Think of all the taxes you're going to be paying to the government when you finally finish medical school and residency. Most of that money is going to go to people that make terrible choices in their lives and just want a free ride. Medical students are at least likely to be some of the people keeping this country temporarily afloat while the leeches continue to tear it down.

My parents' income is about 60k and I'm not even close to being in need of welfare benefits. I also live in one of the most expensive parts of the country. You know they have these things called "loans." Quite a novel idea really. They let you have money now to pay for school and the cost of living, and you pay it back later.

I've seen a few with foodstamp cards. Hell, I think every student that qualified at UAB got foodstamps. (matter of fact, I brought the applications to the dorm)

I know of 1 pharmacy student who recieved welfare, section 8, etc.
She had a child. You can't get welfare unless you have a child in my state.

Myself and all of my med school friends have food stamps, so I guess you could call that welfare. $200 a month makes a big difference, hard to believe how much I have saved these past 3 years. 👍

And no, I dont even feel a bit bad about it. I recommend everyone do it. I just wish I would have gotten on this gravy train back in undergrad...
