Anyone know if pharmacy schools will allow you to side-step their requirements? For example, I wanted to apply to all GA schools including this one http://www.southuniversity.edu/campus/Pharmacy/admissionRequirements.asp

But they want me to have 2 semesters of Anatomy and Physiology(Low level biology class). I already have general biology and have taken 1 semester of a higher level human physiology. Why they would ask for such an erraneous request is beyond me. They are also asking specifically for psychology. If I dont meet these requirements, should I just make it easy on myself and not apply here?

some schools are more strict than others when it comes to their pre-reqs. i would contact the office of admissions at south university and ask them.

Human Anatomy and Physiology is part of the Pharmacy curriculum. Some schools have it as a pre-req. but for most schools it is a professional course work. Thus I think that it would be in your interest to take it, if you have the time, 'cos regardless of which school you get into, you will take it and a knowledge might help you ultimately.

You may want to talk to them admissions office, perhaps you can take Human Anatomy (4hrs) to complement your Human Physiology (4hrs) which would still meet the requirement for 8hrs in Anatomy & Physiology.

Gook luck!

You should definitely contact the admissions office.

I majored in Biology and Biochemistry and after graduating, took microbiology at a CC. Many pharmacy schools required Medical Micro instead of just General, so now I have to take virology to complement General.

You should still apply, but don't be shocked when they state that you'll have to finish their required prereqs.

I got accepted and they wouldn't take my upper division physiology class as the anatomy requirement 😡 . Now I'm taking a 1 semester intro to A&P this summer, kinda pointless but worth it. As far as I know, they won't bend the prereqs.

You can always call and ask but most likely you are going to have to take the courses listed. I agree with what FluoroQuinolone has said, they probably want you to take the classes separately. OR, they expect that a course that incorporates both anatomy and physiology would require a 2 series course.

Just so you know, in my P1 class we had a lady who went to Indiana University who had a double major in Bio and Psych and a minor in spanish and something else. She had wanted to go to med school at first and so she had taken gross anatomy at the IU med school. When she came to Butler to do Pharmacy instead, our anatomy professor told her that she would have to take the class again and that he would not accept gross anatomy from IU in place of our anatomy class.

So you're not alone!!
Best of luck!
